Site averages about 55,000 visits (18,000-22,000 unique) with a little over 2 million pageviews each month. The site is secured with SSL, so I can't use AdSense on the site... so I'm trying to figure out what a good price to charge per month would be to advertisers who might want to put a banner up on the site. The site is a way for people to manage their finances online (an online checkbook). thoughts?
I can tell you you'd be able to make $110+/mo for each 125x125 banner. $2/unique CPM, I charge $1.5 with a lot less traffic and pageviews.
People are entering their purchases/deposits into the website. While it isn't associated with any sensitive data such as account numbers, people prefer the peace of mind that SSL provides. Personally I wouldn't have used it, but the demand for it was too great to ignore.
I don't think you need to use SSL on the entire website, just the pages and systems which handle sensitive data. Using SSL on all of the page will slow the site down and as you say, hamper your abilities to make money from it.
Scottscd might be right. You may not need SSL on the entire site. But to answer your question I think $70-$100 per month is reasonable.
