    I type shorten usually when I want to speak(type) very fast or when I have less time to tell(write) what I want :D

    Isnt it difficult to type in that 'l33t' style? :D

    It's called LEET or L33T, short for elite.

    A lot of underground internet users use it.

    A ton of gamers, like in Counter-Strike, n00b is an example of leet for a newbie.

    I cant stand leetspeak. It was 'cool' back on irc in the 90's but now its just a bad stereotype of computer geeks/gamers. It always comes across as unintelligent to me.
