What The Hell? My Site Just Disappeared From Google!

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by Shadowplay, Jan 17, 2008.

My 2 month old site was ranking decently for certain keywords until today when I checked up on it. Now, my keywords rankings are almost gone. In fact, I was ranked #3 or so for the keyword phrase in my domain name and now there's no ranking at all.

The only thing I can think of that might do this is that a couple of days ago, I ran an SEO rank checker on another site that I run and since it was going so slow, I opened up another SEO proggie and did the same rank check.

Would running 2 programs like this at the same time raise a red flag to Google and would that have anything to do with them penalizing another site of mine in the rankings?

It is often referred to as the sandbox. New sites can rank well for a few days then drop to the hundreds for 8 months or more.

No need to give it another week. What Shadowplay has described is the sandbox effect. If a site is being affected by the sandbox all the site owner can do is keep getting good inbound links while they wait it out.

I would also go ahead and assume it's the Sandbox. However, it might have POSSIBLY been removed if Google visited your site and there was nothing found (like if your server had some downtime), then that datacenter would report a different ranking. Try checking your ranking in all the datacenters and see where you end up.

yes, it is the sandbox effect, you can get in back there either in few weeks or even months, 8 months as said earlier can also happen(it had happened with me)

So Google won't penalize you if you're using SEO programs like Web Position or IPB, and pounding them with requests to find keyword rankings? Has anyone here ever been penalized for using these programs too aggressively?

is your site low in rankings or absent from google? There is a huge difference. First thing could be sandbox, second isn't.
