Any countries better to avoid in Adwords

    Good morning all,

I have been tweaking an adword campaign for the last couple of weeks, not that huge, about $25 a day, an average cost of $0.14 or so. Problem is, my conversions are quite low, and I suspect it might be because of a few things:

    1) Most (95%+) of my traffic comes from content vs search, which tends to convert not as well.

    2) Lots of my traffic comes from Egypt, India, Saudia Arabia and China, even though I specified only English-speaking. I did keep every country selected though.

So my question is, are there countries that I should systematically remove from my campaign? My product can be used by any English-speaking person, but they need to be able to use Paypal. Perhaps some countries have a harder time with Paypal?

I'd like to hear some experiences people had.

Avoid countries that don't speak the language you are advertising.

Isn't that done by choosing the language-targetting?

No. That's the language that is on your website. You choose, where to receive the traffic from by location targeting.

That isn't necessarily the best thing - I can see why people would assume that, but I do as much business with Italy and Spain as I do with Canada, despite never having ads in Italian or Spanish - you have to know your own market and where they are. I would never just lump in all countries - pick out the ones you actually can and want to do business with. If China and Egypt etc are converting keep them in, otherwise, get rid. (and have a look at the Payment Processing subforum to see where people are complaining about not being able to use paypal)

When testing countries, make sure to set up a campaign for "each" country so you can measure performance from each one individually. They have staggeringly different results from the testing we have done.

When you specify 'english speaking', it doesn't mean targeting countries which have english as their primary language.. it just means the searches that are done in english... for eg: in india, seraches are almost always in english and not in the regional languages.. whereas in countries like china or japan for that matter, people dont do searches in english that much - they use google in their native languages...

my experience is that asian countries have much less conversion rate (unless you are promoting some work-from-home techniques which sell quite a lot in india, malaysia etc).. but if ur selling something like 'pet-ebooks', dont sell them in these countries...

you need to do ur research of the market trends.. use professional research services if u hv the budget.. www.e-consultancy.com is the one i use,, tho it costs money and then there is www.marketingexperiments.com/

another thing i like to get more 'targeted' audience is facebook - my new favourite web 2.0 tech (atleast according to me)... cuz here instead of making it country specific, u can make it more targeted based on ur demographics like age/profession/interests.. I have personally enjoyed higher conversions with this new platform :D:D:D (see my signature for details)

THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT UR TARGETING SHOULD DEPEND ON THE KIND OF PRDUCT UR PROMOTING FOR BEST CONVERSIONS my mantra is that if it is a good more than $50, i aim it at us and european markets.. i target asian countries only when its <$50..

also, i beleive that in the countries u mentioned, paypal etc isnt really that big of an issue.. especially since the customer can always pay with a credit card
