www.skilledgraphics.com this is my site, ive chaged it like five times, its like i keep getting bored, the layout is going to stay for now, but i need some ideas for colors. Anyone have any thoughts?
It looks great the blue background with the white lettering is a good contrast, not too bright on the eyes and not too dull. Maybe just a bit more of that orange color of the lettering "Domainers" for those messages you want to highlight would be nice, but use sparingly. Frankly it is a well thought of design. Not much I can critique on. Good work!
Thanks, the site has seen about 10 different color schemes and layouts, in its short life. It will probably change again within a month or so. But the good thing is it changes for the better i think.
I'm not sure whether you had changed the color scheme before or after this review, but I actually like the blue/grey color scheme - very high tech. I think it would be interesting to also add silver. I'm not a big fan of flash, because I do think it distracts from the page, and rather than making the user scroll down to see your work, I think it would be more effective for the user to click the link on the home page to go directly to another page on your site where the user could go through your portfolio without having to scroll down. I like the choice of static or fading portfolio images, the big thing is to allow the user to the convenience of not having to scroll down in order to get to the next set of images. The nice thing about a slide-show type format is that you focus your user's total attention on your work only. There is nothing else on the page going on to distract the user from viewing your graphic designs. I use a slideshow format here: http://www.charlotte-eba.com/slides.html . Your prices are great; no wonder your portfolio is so large! - Julie
Thanks, yeah just changed the scheme last night, i like it too. As far as that animation at the top, im not sold on keeping it, the main reason i put it there, is when its not there, there is a huge empty space, that im not sure what to fill it with. If anyone has any ideas, i would appreciate it.
the design looks good.. but the gif image on right top is so fast.. you need to make it smooth.. the rest seems nice to me..
I actually dont like the colors, it doesn´t make me inresting to look further on your site. I like when there is "happier" colors, like blue or red. Well, its seems like its only me.
Your logos are excellent work, but I believe the web design isn't that strong, just yet. Try centering the whole layout...more people are choosing larger screen sizes and it gives a whole lot of white space to the right of your layout. Take away the rotating gears, it doesn't mesh well. For color, check out the site "Kuler". Excellent choice of color palettes. You could google "color" and find a variety of sites for helping you choose a scheme. Another approach to color and even to help your layout, is to find at least 3 sites you like....design, color, layout, style....w/e it may be and mimick different aspects of each to create your own. When you show off your portfolio, too, don't do a slide show. I think people would rather have your work laid out as a link to a large image of it. Hopefully my tips help some bit.
I like the overall look of the site, as well as the colors. The gears probably need to go though, they look very dated, like a classic internet .gif.
I guess a light yet vibrant shade of blue would be better. And a small logo depicting seven rainbow colors can very much bring the feel of a designing site. I would also suggest to break the front paragraph into two to make it more prominent.
