i have a couple of google ads on my directory, but even though i've got like 1000 page impressions, almost no one clicks them. so, my question is: do you use Adsense on your directory? is it something that's worth to have?
I have used adsense before and the results are terrible, you are much better off not having it or placing something else there on any general directory. I currently have a few niche directories with a little bit of adsense and it does get the odd click but not a money maker yet. I anticipate when search engine traffic rises I might make up to $20-$30 a month from it.
I put adsense on my directory but only make $2-5 /day from it. Not a lot of money but I guess it adds up in the end and more than covers my expenses (other than my time)
I dont use adsense on my directories and never have because before i even started one i read often enough that adsense does poorly on directories, while i still like to test a lot of things for myself i decided not to because some submitters also express a dislike of too much adsense or too many ads in general.
I'm not a real big fan of adsense on directories as I think it is a little tacky. However, it does seem to work on some directories so I would say give it a test drive and see how it works out for you and then go from there.
I used it since i started www.thefreewebsitedirectory.co.uk around 9 months ago... and made nothing or very little.. but now it gets around 200 visitors per day and average adsense earnings are $2-3 per day which im quite happy with. Regards, madtay
Using adsense at few of my web directories but not getting good results thus thinking to remove it from there. Adsense on web directories not good idea IMO.
I have two free directories, one is a general directory and the other is niche which I put Adsense on. From the results so far, the Adsense located on the niche one is performing better than the general one but overall the results are not so good.
You won't make much money with adsense on directories unless your directory gets search engine hits. If all your traffic is just webmasters looking to add a link the adsense might pay your hosting fee but nothing else.
A valid point, perhaps all those saying it does not make money, can also say they have a low visitor rate, and is more a directory just for webmasters to place links. and not really promoted outside of that circle. perhaps adsense is a good baromoter to real visitors ?
No not really, AdSense just doesn't work on General directories. I have it on a few of mine and make a few bucks out of it, but nothing to write home about (and yes they do get good traffic from search engines). IMO AdSense works best for niche directories.
Fair point, just hard to work out why it works on one type and not another, i suppose each case has its own factors at play. I am going to run a test on a general directory soon with some, but in a left feild out of the box way, will see how it goes & happy to report back any findings.
I think that Adsense only works good on niche directories and not general directories, I read yesterday some one having 15% CTR on his directory, need to find that thread
Hey that is not bad. After all the best way to make money on the Internet is multiple streams of income so $30 a month will help you easily cover up your costs. Better than nothing.
hey guys.. i opened a directory one weeks ago.... i add some adsense on it... by the my directory doesnt looks ugly take a look on my sig
