What is everyones views on PayPerPlay advertising? I just signed up to the mailing list and I believe one of the emails said that it is coming out in February some time. Is anybody going to use this? I am.

It said that people only have to listen to/watch 5 seconds of the video for you to earn money from it.

What do you think about all this, and do you think it will go far?

I think it is going to be a great progam and as it says in my Signature you get paid for 100% of the visitors to your website, it is going to be interesting to see how well this takes off..

Promoting of refferal links is against the rules. You can only place them in signatures.

Wow, what a terribly annoying form of advertising :p

    It's like pop-ups for the 21st century.

If it automatically plays when a visitor come in, yeah, that would not only be annoying, it would be fucking annoying.

It is the equivalent to "read emails" for money. The people are able to pay you because advertisers can show advertisements. What a way to do so then get advertisers to pay you and then you show others the advertisements promising them that you will pay them a portion of the profit. So I think it will be as successful as pay per email. Follow what I mean?

The Wall Street Journal has a write-up
and some presidential candidates have also shown interest.
This should help ease the fears of being a scam
The webpage has also been redesigned

    So what?

Besides, scam or not, if, IF, the ad automatically plays when a visitor comes in, it is annoying to him. ... Period.

One of the rules of marketing: Don't irritate a potential customer for the sake of money.

    Hi Webmasters,

I was looking for a new ad system to use on my entertainment site and I found this new promising company call Pay Per Play.

They caught my attention because their ads is very similar to tv and radio ads. They promised $2.50-$7.50 CPM rate (possibly more, the minimum is $2.50) and they'll be launching on February 1st, 2008. They will pay you through Paypal, check, or direct bank transfer. They are targeting major branding advertisers such as Tacos Bell and companies like Wal-Mart or Mcdonalds.

Their ads will play a 5 seconds audio ad on the page that you insert the code. The 5 seconds audio ad is related to the texts on your page. It will not play the 5 secs audio ad again for another 3 minutes, so people will not hear it every time they switch to another page on your website.

Check them out and give me your opinion.

Do you think this will annoy people or it is the future of online advertisements?

There was a big deal at Digg a week ago because of some adio ads that were showing up. there was quite a revolt. I'm signed up too, but I'm nervous it will stop stumble upon traffic, if more people give thumbs down and or fewer people give thumbs up... and might hurt links. People may be less inclined to link in. So I will give it a try and see how the CPM settles in. But a lot of people won't like it- like those surfing at work.

Also, as ppp becomes common, people will just learn to surf with their sound off, greatly reducing the number of people who hear the ads, and that will lower advertisers bids and our income from it. But that may be gradual over several months.

    We'll see how it goes.
