Do Search Engnies See?

    If I create my own test links (mostly for internal linking) <a href "...">blah, blah </a>, do the search engines see the "blah blah" text in the link?

    if you dont want them to see a particular page if you are testing etc, then add it to robots.txt

    I understood that the spiders did not see text that was in a banner link, but I was uncertain about pure text within links.

    Yes, in fact the actual words that you choose to use for the text link - called your anchor - is one of the most important aspects of your SEO as far as the SERPs go.
