I wanted to know, whats wrong in supporting liberals? What is a liberal? How are republicans different from liberals?

Why would Mccain or Huckabee be better than Obama or Kerry?

Today's modern mainstream candidates are all basically centrists. They cater to both the right (conservative) and the left (liberals).

Typically the thing that distinguishes them is that the liberals tend more for the welfare state, and the conservatives for the warfare state.

But these days, there is a dramatic blurring of the lines, so much so that the dog and pony show of the elections really isn't fooling anyone that they won't get basically the same sort of government from either side. For example, Clinton and Obama approve of anti-civil rights legislation, and endorse the aggressive foreign policy in a subtle manner. McCain, Giuliani and Romney both flirt with amnesty and greater governmental controls.

It was not always this way however.

Classic liberals were concerned with small government and civil liberty.
    Jefferson, Jackson, Cleveland

Classic conservatives were concerned with small government and economic liberty. Goldwater, Taft, Coolidge.

We've come a long way since we held those consistent American ideals of small government in high regard.

There is nothing wrong with being a liberal, if you know what true liberalism is. Just as there is nothing wrong with being a true conservative. Both are noble ideologies, and at their heart, not incompatible with one another.

    I concur.

The Republican Party? Nahhh... as soon as this election is over, those fakers will leave the party as quickly as they joined.

I have a different take.. I don't know that America wants Obama or Hillary.. One is inexperienced, one is a power monger..

If I ever switch parties, I'm going for Edwards. The guy seems honest, smart, and obviously knows what the hell he is doing. I guess he just does not have enough hype, lacks a smug attitude, and willingness to throw caution to the wind and run under false pretense..

There is something about this guy I like... I think he would have had a better chance than Kerry last go around.

I just do not see either Hillary or Obama making it for more reasons than I care to even begin to discuss...

Aint that the thruth... This smells so much like Perot, I can taste it.. The similarities are uncanny!

Are you moderating the threads now? Might want to take that all into the context in which it was delivered before delivering an ill informed opinion.

I think Will could pull of an Indy... Got the look, the gusto, and the know how!

oops.. my apologies.. Now that I re-read, it looks like Nate here was referring to AGS.. Well in that case, I agree... It was an attack.. Bad, bad AGS.. Very Bad...

Man, I hated Richard Nixon so bad that I supported Jimmy Carter in 1976.

How's that for stupid? Out of the frying pan and into the fryer!

Disclaimer: I was in elementary school at the time.

This one is super easy to explain, without a lot of words.

    Watch this.

If you get a tingle up your spine, feel emotional, feel loyal, a sense of pride and honor, even feel like shedding a tear, you are probably a Republican.

If you are repulsed, feel ashamed, feel hatred, or can't stand to watch it, you are probably a liberal or ron paul supporter.

Im going with Hilary. She will pretty much lead the same as Bill did. And i thought Bill did a very good job. Im pretty sure it will be Bill running it behind the scenes. I also think we need a female president, even though im a male. But if Obama gets it then im just as happy.

Wow, an actual liberal Democrat who isn't pretending to be a Republican supporting Ron Paul.

I was beginning to think that we had lost the last of you on DP!

Same here, but the support for JC was due to elementary school itself, and those damn HiLiter Magazines that we used to get.. They had this, children vote poll, where children could vote for President... We were urged to choose Carter!

Thank God my dad set me straight. I remember walking to the gas station with him (MR. GAS) in Webster. You know, with gas can in tow... Man those were the days.... People think things are bad now? Try 16% interest rates on for size. Gas going from .35 cents/gal to over a buck OVERNIGHT!!! And no gas on certain days.. We hoofed it everywhere back then. Dad was a traveling sales man, so all the gas went into his company car!

I still wonder how the hell my parents or anyone made it through those times...
