Get your hands on Rosiland Gardner's Super Affiliate Handbook. It has been out awhile but all the bascis are there to get you started in the right direction. I may have not spelled her name right, so just Google the book title.
If you can find something reasonably priced to buy -- a site with at least some verifiable and relatively long-term income -- buy it. I've found there's simply no substitute for diving in with a working product when it comes to learning the ropes.
There are a few ebooks out there that will guide you. I wish you all the best, it does take a bit of time to master this game.

Here is a quick crash course 1. Sign up with Comission Junction 2. Sign up with Google Adwords 3. Choose a product from commision junction which allows search marketing 4. Get a list of "allowable" keywords" 5. Now go to your google adwords account 6. Write an add using the allowable keywords 7. Promote your add - set your budget 8. Wait for your sale and net profit 9. I know exactly how you feel brotha! I remember asking the same exact question about a year ago and now I have finally gotten the hang of it. You are on the right track though, keep asking questions as that will be a key element in getting started. One thing that helped me get a real grip on affiliate marketing was Wealthy Affiliate, but one of the most useful things on the net to give you a push in the right direction is forums just like DP. Keep asking questions and always have a pen and paper while surfing for advice and guidance, I have like 5 or 6 notebooks filled with info that I have learned over my time studying affiliate marketing. I'm going to write an review and submit it to Squidoo and or Hubpages. Then I link them to a simple blog. Where they will find my link. It's a sort of a landing page cuz Squidoo and Hubpages don't allow affiliate links. Thanks for the motivation bro!
