it's a hard time for directory owners, so hurry up to sell your directories when they still have a pretty green bar! http://www.sitepoint.com/marketplace/auction/19042
Mike leaving the directory industry? I personally feel bad for the directory industry. We just lost another gr8 member here. Regarding the sale... I doubt if mike would get a good price, Directory sales are at its worst form it can be these days. My personal advice to mike would be to continue developing this project. Good luck Mike.
Good luck with the sale, and yes he is leaving the industry! The directory industry will miss a good directory owner, regards, uttoransen, Edit: Not leaving, just selling the directory.
Mikey is not leaving the directory industry, he is moving away from the general directory industry. The sale... Well promoted, nice looking and it has some good content, I see no reason why it won’t sell. Thanks Brian
Mike ain't going anywhere, I won't let him anyway. He did mention he is leaving "general directories", he didn't say anything about niche directories. So I guess there is still hope. Time will show how he will plays his cards.
Ok business wise and what Mike does is none of my business so firstly il remind myself to mind my own business As far as im aware Mike is a Uni guy possibly? many students i see are rarely thinking long term with online projects anyway as the directories are often pocket money for them while their studying. May be completely wrong on the Uni thing though, good luck with the sale anyway Mike. Note: In the most polite way, prepare yourself for further attacks from people of i told you so, you know the score by now.
I am not sure Mikey is leaving the directory market. Most probably he is getting into the niche directory market as he told me he is developing some niche directories.
I really find the reactions of folk to this thread interesting, ,, It might be a good time for you all to have a look at your bottom lines, a hard look You all need to remember that this is the most crowded internet market thanks to free scripts, free everything An unlike blogging, there is little to bring in non webmaster traffic, The difference between the successful blogs, and the mass of rubbish out there is glaring, an people quickly eliminate the rubbish from their internet itinery, directory differentiation is not so clear Could your time be better spent doing something more productive ? perhaps mikey being a sharp intelligent chap is making that decision
Are you saying people should quit general directories? quit directories of any sort or have i completely misread your post?
Ha! A grand for a pr4, good luck with the sale Hey, if you can sell it for a grand, maybe I'll sell off a few pr4 dir's that I have too
@pipes I merely suggesting that if after 1 year you're, making $500 after expenses and living in the UK You might want to ask , what is going to change this year how am I going to make the $50,000 after expenses a year thats a fair income in the UK an a poor one in the USA And this does not mean the meaningless turnover figure people quote $100,000 income, for example, leaving out the fact that $140,000 has been spent getting there( exaggeration here ) So for example Take a directory of the Phpld class laying claim to PR7/6 , and 500,000 inbound links, all achieved within 6 months What is the re current expenditure of the directory owner ? Chances are the owner is sinking in to debt Fast !! Then what happens when the SEs decide to take a close look at how a directory achieves the kinda statiastics that it took a previous generation of directory 10/7 years to obtain ? The net is full of de indexed directories So of the money guys are spending will not come back, perhaps most of it, I just feel impelled to ask folk to be careful with their money, tis hard stuff to come by I wish all the best to us all this year
