Hi, My friend has started hosting files on his blog and its become quite popular and was way to much for shared hosting. He needs either a Dedi/VPS and he needs it offshore as the files he will be hosting are warez. So 10 TB bandwidth should be enough for what he needs and 20 GB HDD quite enough. I think maybe a VPS would be alright for this? Lets see what offers you have :)

Hi there DP. I'm the "Friend"

OK so, I was hosting repository's for the iPod touch/iPhone, GBA, Snes, PSX, Nes ROMs to be exact. I moved it from an older server to the current one I'm on (Which happened to be shared, I had no idea it was so popular). It used 200GB of bandwidth in less than 24 hours, with over 24000 downloads.

So, I need decent VPS or a dedicated server, 200USD a month is my maximum price, with a host that is outside of the USA, where ROMs are OK. (leaseweb sorta thing, they are too expensive though).

To sum this up, I need a VPS or a dedicated server, that is OK with ROMs, and has at least 10TB of bandwidth, I prefer unmetered, even though everything has a limit but I'd really like something way over 10TB. And if I happen to use the Bandwidth limit, I do not want extra charges, a suspended page for the rest of the month is fine.

With $200 you won't get anything reliable. Do you need it only for file hosting?

Yes, file hosting only - Although I will need to host HTML files (Each game has HTML file with detail of game, tells the device where to extract). And a few PHP files
So people on the iPod Touch/iPhone can get games directly from the device, no PC required

What do you mean 200 is not enough? That's a lot of money to be paying, per month :(

To all the smarta$$es arguing that $200 is more than enough take this into consideration:

    For a US server:
    1) A 60 mbit average usage (~20 TB of traffic) costs about $600 at a rate of $10/mbit (lowest and crappiest quality you could get).
    2) The server itself would cost about $100 (without the mentioned bandwidth) cuz sustaining those 60 mbits average usage (peaks included) will need some firepower.

In offshore EU countries the mbit is a bit more expensive, but should just get under $1k/mth total. In Asian countries that amount would cost you at least $3k/mbit (considered at $30/mbit)

I work for file-services.com and believe me I know what I'm talking about.

All these reseller kiddies who think they'll make a buck and then just run away when their reseller suspends them or their vps is plugged out cuz of bandwidth exhaustion aren't here for more than a scam.
