Wordpress, Blogspot or own subdomain?

    Hi all,

I want to set up a site that gives pointers on how to do stuff. Problem is, should I host it on a blogging site like Wordpress, Blogspot, or should I set it up on a subdomain which I am already using for something else?

    Thanks for your insights.

Go with your own subdomain. In the long run it would be very well worth it.

    Thanks for your reply.

I'm thinking it would be rather hard to keep promoting various sites if I have a domain, a blog, then possibly another domain for another use, in future.

Personally I like my content (blogs, or regular sites) on my own sites.
There you can add whatever you want, without restrictions (well, always with legal content).

Yes, if you know how to install and maintain wordpress on your own host, then I would go that route. You keep the links, the content, the traffic, and can grow easier should the blog take off. But be sure you are comfortable maintaining a site.

I think the hosting service has Wordpress in one of their packages :)

I was thinking also, since I use Joomla to sell software on the main domain, should I install Wordpress and use a subdomain for it, or should I just lump the blog/articles onto the Joomla site that sells my software.

use your own domain or sub-domain, it gives you more control over it.

buy a new domain that fits your content.. coz it might not fit w/ your old one so a subdomain won't help much.. niether would wordpress/blogspot/similar ones do..

Just use your own domain and hosting. Much safer. ;)

Hmmm, I never thought of domains fitting... haha

That's why my domain sounds generic.

You won't have to worry about your site vanishing from the blogosphere.

I agree. That's what I do and I am fairly new. It's not too difficult and gives you lots of control.
