    A social network for webmasters!
Like DP as a social network instead of a forum.....
    Will it be a success?

I've been thinking about this lately but decided to put it off for a while.

I think your biggest headache would be dealing with all of the spam.

I've talked to an expert about this and he agrees that you'd probably have
do deal with more spam than in most other markets.

It's a great concept. With the number of members in DP, it's social network will take off pretty fast.

I don't think it will work... Webmasters are people who like to keep there info private. + they aren't that social :D

may work well for advertisement, but gaining trust will be hard.

I don't see what's the big deal with social networks anyway.

If all the members work together and get a good concept about how exactly the dp can be utilized as a social network, it would definitely work. The chances of achieving success is very high here because almost all the members have similar (webmasters) interests. :)

I don't think it would work at all..

The idea behind forums is a little different to social networks, social networks are about profiles, networking and making friends, whereas forums are more of a Q&A format.. and information sharing.

    Thats true.

Webmasters do not really have much interest in making profiles but they like sharing information and asking questions... on forums.

Isn't there enough social networks as it is? Crap ones at that.

It just can be managed seperately. Does not mean forum should be shut down! It can continue as it is.

Thats also true, I think what we are really asking for is maybe more advanced profiles.. and maybe a friends option.. there are some very powerful vb add-ons that allow this.

Yes this will indeed be your biggest hurdle. And the reason being that now you have automated programs spamming pages and they are pretty niffty programs. Yes, they can even read the captcha when signing up. So you will need someone with you. Someone willing to constantly moderate. But in the long run it could bring in alot of money. So I guess you could give it a try.

After looking through dzone.com a social site for designer & developers, it seems doable.

With lots of moderators this can be done!
The same DP forum is going to be a Social network! Just imagine all sub forums here as a community or separate option at a social network!
The same BST section and more....
I think this can be done easily... Since there is no separate social network for webmasters (As for I know..) it is easy to get more members for the social network!
I may wrong! But this is just my suggestion!
