How to get Alexa rank?

I think it is the matter of the TRAFFIC only. It does not matter the user have installed ALEXA toolbar installed on his PC or not.

I never understood alexa

I have a PR2 site with 1300 Uniques a month for 18 months the site has been up
and my alexa ranking is 300,000. Dont know how they come up with the ranking

 

Its got noting to do with backlinks. Alexa attempts to rank traffic and its based on how many people visit your site.

 

Alexa ranking is based on the number of browser with the Alexa toolbar install visit your site. I'm not a big fan of the site. I prefer compete.com or quantcast.com. Both are more complete with their information and provide better traffic estimates.

Alexa rank depends upon the visitor traffic. Drive as much as traffic to your website. Alexa rank will definitely improve.

 

This is true and unfortunately the data is inaccurate and easily manipulated (whether intentional or not).

EXCELLENT blog post, Alexa is so inaccurate that using it for anything serious is a big mistake.

People, please stop referring to an alexa stat like it means anything

 

You should get traffic from persons who already installed alexa toolbar in the web browser.

 

Agree with this...alexa can be manipulated....

 

Alexa ranking is said that can be manipulated.. I dont think I will rely on it in terms of measuring traffic... The visitors it counts are just approximate not the real visitors.... I myself dont rely on it too much..

I just rely on SERPs and traffic by checking using webstats....like statcounter and analytics...

alexa measures traffic using their own toolbar

if 10000 people come to your site, but not one of them has the alexa toolbar installed, alexa will think you have zero visitors

if 5 people come to your site everyday, and all 5 have the alexa toolbar installed, and you have no other visitors, alexa will think you have 1000's of visitors

 

This doesn't seem like a good idea... as it would seem to be better spent on direct linking so it can serve better for google and pr... alexa isn't really important in my opinion

 

That's odd, I've never even heard of the Alexa toolbar. I assume you can download it from Alexa.org?
