Hi, This subject has been touched on in the past although seems a little ambiguous - are there any RSS feeds that can be legally used to add automatic content to a site ? Please feel free to PM if you know of any. Rgds - JB
If a site specifies the feed can be used in certain ways then it can. If it doesn't assume you need to get permission. I have written about this so many times on Newsniche. There does seem to be a growing demand for feeds to make sites look fresher. I have never come across a site with a list of RSS feeds you can use.
Almost. The purpose of rss is for content syndication for personal use, not to facilitate content theft.
It depends on the website in question, where you want to take the feed from and what you want to do with it. I allow anyone to use feeds from http://www.tradersreview.co.uk as long as they have a link back to the site and place a credit for using the content. we even have a free RSS Mashup script for download, the link can be found in the forum on the site. It would be nice if someone using the content helped by posting something back. Mike
Yes, but in general, the fact that a website provides an RSS feed does not mean you can just take it and republish it.
MTbiker, I agree if you take the data and store / convert it into another page thats copyright theft. Using it to keep your vistors aware of whats happening on another site where the feed is being taken from, with a credit and a link back is OK, but it's always best to check the sites TOS where you take the feed from. Out of interest heres yahoo.co.uk TOS
i wouldnt mind if someone would be taking my rss, but if they copy and paste my content then i would be quiet upset, rss sometimes could get you some new visitors...remeber there is always a link that link to the rss website
Some RSS feed provide would be OK with you use thier feeds, other would not. Unless there is something that states a feed can be posted for use on another website I would ask. Personnely, if someone wished to use the feed from HouseViewOnline on thier site I would agree. I would only ask for a text link above the feed to my homepage as payment.
