Hi, I have a question about domain names and SERPs: If I wanna rank high in the SEPS for the word "links", would it make any diff wether i chose domain #1 or #2? #1 Backlinks.com #2 Links.com Would Google still look at Backlinks.com and don't care about Backlinks.com? Also if it is a part of a phrase? Thanks for you time
yeah i agree with this viewpoint it hardly makes any difference, domain name is only one of the ranking factor and any deficiency in this factor can be overcome with superior actions on other factors
Having your keyword in the domain always helps, even if it is part of something else. There are other factors that go into ranking, including keyword relevancy, age, backlinks etc. Do a search for seo in google, and have a look at the result that contains seochat.
Yes the SEO will be highlighted even if it's a part of another word, so Google does see it. There's about 3 of us in the top 20 for "SEO" that don't even have it in the URL, so it is just as possible to rank just as well without a keyword. However if you can get an exact keyword in there all the better. Actually i ranked top 10 for "SEO Company" and didn't even have the term in the URL, Title, Description, H Tags or bold... Just once in the page copy and in backlink anchor text.
Have a keyword in domain name can help but you should consider these factors. 1. Your site should provide original contents + link from authoritative sites to that content. 2. You must have links from authoritative sites/directories to homepage and make sure you vary anchor text to prevent spamming. 3. Your site should repeat #1 regularly + links from blog contents in your niche with old age.
Hi, thanks for your answers, but I would like if you stick to the point. Only dlm and anarmyofme did actually answer my question. As this question is about SEO and nobody knows the right answer for sure, I would like as many opinions as possible. Especially if you have actually tried it...
What I read above from a few were correct (as far as we all know). There are domain names out there that have nothing to do with a certain targeted keyword, yet they'll rank above a site with the keyword in the domain - happens all the time. (And vice-versa) The most important thing you need to learn at this point, is that there are no definitive answers for most SEO questions. SEO is an art, not a science.
