Can too many outbound links get you punished?

I have a site with a few hundred outbound links, only about 20% are normal link exchanges, the rest are links to sites that are similiar to mine that I like that I think my visitors will like.

I know it can dilute pr but in terms of being punished in the serps should I be worried? As I said they are all relevant links and stuff that I think visitors to my site will enjoy.

As long as they are revelant to your sites content, I think it would be a plus for your visitors. Search Engines are trying harder & harder to provide their visitors - searchers with quality content and it sounds like your doing the same thing!

    Have a Nice Day!

    You should consider this

    1. Outbound link should be relevant on your site main subject.
    2. If possible, outbound link should go out to site which is authoritative on your subject.
    3. Number is important, you shouldn't have more than 100 outbound links per page or Google will consider your site is link farms or similar thing.
    4. If possible, you should place link within contents, not just link alone.
    5. Just have too many links stick together is not good, separate/grouped them might be better.

Why when all the links are relevant? Link farms are sites that just link to any random sites just to get a link back from somewhere else and normally have little or no content.

My links I dont get links back, I post them because they have similiar content to mine and I think my visitors would like them.

Too many outbound links in one page do no good for you. It's up to you to believe it or not :D Just my opinion.

I think your doing a good thing and if you got punished for it, it would be insane, your providing some links to relevant sites and helping your visitors find more of what their looking for.

If none of the other sites are connected to any obvious bad neighbourhoods and its all quality stuff then id say all is well.

I would actually go a lot less than 100...even though I'm sure you have good intentions as far as linking to quality, relevant sites, I wouldn't take the chance of having that many outbound links on one page at all. \

There is nothing wrong with linking out, it's encouraged, but 100...no way!

But that just goes to show that SEO is an ART, not a SCIENCE (yet), and everyone has their own opinion and solutions. =D
