Hosting - What should I do?

    Hi All,

I currently have a decision to make with regards to hosting and I could do with some help from those in the know. Currently I pay about £40 ($80ish) to host 5 sites with a English web hosting company. It's quite a small company but they have great customer service etc. My biggest issue is the amount of bandwidth that I am allowed, currently its 5Gb per month and due to the amount of traffic my blog has been getting lately I am worried I am going to reach it quite easily in the next few days.
I have plans of starting an arcade games site too (already got a domain for this) and although I could host it with my current provider I know for a fact that I wont have the bandwidth available to make it successful.

I need to make a decision on what to do fast, my hosting is paid yearly and is up for renewal next week. I have been a loyal customer and they are a great hosting provider however I have been reading about Bluehost.com and think they might suit my needs now.

I can upgrade the amount of bandwidth on my current hosting (it will cost about $10 for an extra 2Gb per month) but even then I don't think that will be enough, especially if I start the games website up. And then it might start costing me loads each month to keep adding more bandwidth!

    What should I do?
    Thanks for reading :)

I think you are paying to much for hosting. Move to a better plan at another company. Just to make sure is that 5GB total or per site? Hostgator's BABY plan is about what you are paying now and is 6,000gb.

    It's 5Gb total!

Is it possible to use AW Stats with Bluehost.com?

How difficult would be moving over a Wordpress blog to a new host? I am worried it could be quite tricky.

I have not heard a lot of good thing about Bluehost. Are you using cpanel? Hostgator will move up to 30 sites for free.

With my current host? No, something called HELM. I can easily move all the files that shouldn't be a problem, its just the databases I will have problems with.

You have heard bad things about Blue host? I was tempted to go with them because their package looks amazing and a friend of mine is with them.

just what I have heard. I have never tried them. There are many big companies out there, just remember you pay for what you get. You can always get someone from DP to move your database for you. There are a lot of good programmers here.

Thanks for your help cb711. I have been thinking about what to do and I know why my bandwidth is getting used so much. One of my blog posts has about 3Mb worth of images on it. If I start running out (get within 500mb of using my 5Gb), I am going to host the pictures somewhere else and link to them.

To save all the hassle I am going to continue with my current host until I really HAVE to change. In the meantime, I shall keep an eye out for a better offer.

    Hi Munday,

Please take at the following thread. We can move over all your files and databases free of charge for you to make the transition a completely smooth one.

If you have any questions, please ask! By the way, I wouldn't move to BlueHost from your current hosting provider. That'd be going in the wrong direction. :)

Bluehost and fatcow-ipage-hostmonoster all are under same ceo. They are not good as they did suspend my sites so recently changed my provider.

Keep the website on a UK based server. Simplehostuk offers 10GB Webspace
50GB Bandwidth for 4 pound per month or they have larger plans. If you want to stick with CPanel or plesk then you will have to pay more.

You are paying crazy expensive price for such a hosting-plan.

choose a Uk based web hosting company and server, having a website on a foreign server will have a negative effect search engine results.

Try hostgator instead, they best for shared servers.
