I maybe looking to create and sell domain names. That being said, I have several questions to ask. #1, What type of domain names sell for a good profit? .com , .org, .net, .biz, .uk and etc #2, I create a long domain name costing of between 5-9 letters. Would it sell for a profit? #3, Can a just bought domain name sell for good profit? Or is it best to design a website for that name?
Any suggestions? To add to this- would numbers be a good choice to add to a domain? Example: 68cars.com, 78wheels.com/.
#1 .coms are easiest to sell. I wouldn't touch .biz unless it's a top-100 keyword. #2 No, statistically speaking* it won't. Not because of the length, which is fine, but because you plan to 'create' it. There are trillions of combinations in that range and at best only millions of websites looking for a new name. Anyone can come up with a good sounding made-up word, including the buyers that you would be targeting. #3, Sure, it can. If by 'just bought' you mean 'just registered' it probably won't, but it can do. Creating and properly SEOing a good website though is likely to give you a much better return. *Statistically speaking in this case means 95% confidence level.
.coms usually sell for a good price, though I have sold .infos for mid-XXX. Most domains do not sell for more than reg fee. It is better to develop, there are many ways to make money from a developed domain
Whatever you do, as you are so blatantly naive in this industry sector, do not, whatever you do, think that you can immediately make money in this industry, you quite simply will not do so. Sorry to put it so harshly, but there is no point at all, pulling any punches here. You need to go away and read everything you can possibly do so, for at least 3 months, and when your mind is absolutely sick and tired of taking on board more information on the subject for at least 10 hours a day, seven days a week, you then need to just carry on reading, researching some more. Do your homework first. Believe you me, the number of new people entering this industry sector, thinking, hey what could be easier, come up with a few so called cool domain names and instantly make a profit, how wicked is that? Well, let me tell you now, you carry on and do that, and you will without fail fall flat on your face. I'm trying to help you here to save your money for when you really need it to register something decent. Believe you me, I'd love to see you take on board this advice and earn some income from it, but the hard truth is, that 95% of people entering this industry havn't got the foggiest clue what they are doing and collectively, all these hundreds of newbies, waste a sizeable fortune every month, buying new names that havn't got a hope in hells chance of making any form of profit. Profit comes btw not from new hand reg's, but names in the aftermarket, if you look anywhere, this is the segment that stands you in the best possible chance of making some money. My tip to you is, if you are desperate to buy straightaway, you buy from the aftermarket only LLLL.com names which at the moment are steadily increasing in value. LLLL stand for Four Letter names. You can buy cheaply enough from ebay and TDnam.com - If you can afford to do so, buy premium letter domains only and even better if they are pronounceable. Too, ask for advice before some shark here convinces you that they have a fantastic name for sale, when patently it is worth about $2 only. Lurch yourself in by all means, waste your hard earn't cash thinking you will make it big straightaway, and you really are in for sore disappointment. Magawr has given some good advice, you need to learn all about domains first before you can make it profitable! It is just like anything, you need to know the industry first.
Magawr has given some quality advice. The important part with selling is not to get impatient. You cannot expect a domain listed today to sell tomorrow. 3 letter mobi .net and 3 character .coms are good investments for buyers and hence sell.
Go to TDNAM.com. Click the "closeouts" section. Put your credit card away. Just read. What you are seeing is the ugly side of domaining. (There are others.) Every one of those thousands of domains, an average of ten thousand per day at Godaddy alone, is someone's failed dream, someone's lost money. Spend some time there in domaining's rubbish pit. You will understand what we mean when we insist you have to have knowledge to succeed here.
accentnepal, Thanks for the link. That being said, those closed out domain names in godaddy.com are well terrible. I have a list of about 50 name that are very good and surprised they are free. Just not sure if anyone would buy them from me unless I build a site and get traffic to them.
Don't go & rush out to reg any names. As mentioned above, study all you can about domaining, then after a few months when you feel that you've learnt a lot, then start very slowly & ask for free appraisals on domain forums so you get an idea as to what other domainers think of the value of our name & if you're heading in the right direction.
Well written Magawr, I forwarded your post to my friend, who got all excited about buying and selling domain names and it did bring some sense into her. Thanks!
