How quickly did you make it to #1 in google?

How fast have you made the first position for a site from the time you set it up?

I was #1 for bf3 forums in about a week and a half.

That type of question all depends on what I've been targeting. It's hard to quantify how competitive different queries are... but, for something like the name of your site: mysite.com (uncompetitive), it should be able to happen pretty quick... for more competitive keywords, it can take me some months......... for really highly competitive stuff, I know I can't get to #1 no matter what and am just aiming to get into the top 10 and pick-off the tail.

it is really hard to say:

your keywords is hot or not
your site speed is fast or not
your keywords is targeted or not
your site with with good, original contents or not

they are all very important for your site to get good position.

I made #1 for a keyword I wasn't even targeting. No searches on that keyword either so go figure. It took about 8 months of hard work getting to #1 for one of my main keywords. My other main keywords are being a little stubborn :(

Yeah, on my old blog (which had nothing to do with the keyword), I wrote a few posts about my proxy network, and in a few weeks or so, I was number 1 for "newest proxys" and number 3 for "newest proxies". The rankings hold to this day!

Anyway, just leveraging an existing blog or site with some authority can really bump up rankings for new sites. Use what you have, and write relevant content to boot.

It all depends on the keyword. Took me 7 mths to be rank #2 for a highly competitive keyword.

As everyone agreed above...it all depends on how competitive your niche and targeted keywords are. I guess you will rank #1 for "search engine optimization usa california san diego maple street 106" in no time :)

Personally I ranked #1 for a 70% keyword difficulty within 3 weeks. That was my fast performance for a quality keyword.

This question is sort of stupid. I probably have a million #1 searches, and I probably had #1 searches since google actually indexed my site. But I actually need people to search these terms for them to be worth something.

Well for me it took around a month and a half to target a certain keyword with simple SEO techniques as well as using appropriate link back methods that pushed me to the first page of google for a certain keyword.

That depends on the competitivness of keywords.if your keywords are more competitive then it will take time to get #1 position. so try to get more backlinks by on page and off page optimization and keep patience.
