If you were a teenager in the 90's you're probably close to my age. . . What nefarious footpaths of subculture led you to vintage scooters? Restoring P-series scooters is not really something you just decide to "get into", is it? haha haha J
I doubt it will be available in UK, although Tata said that three different countries approached them and shown interest in the Nano. The car is tested and passed for Front and side crashes. So it is as safe as any other car in the small car segment available in India. Surprisingly, It has more room than the India's best seller car 'Maruti 800' (800CC) which is priced @ 1,96,000 INR. This car Nano, is not for roadies or speedsters. The targeted buyer group is middle class people. They want most out of their money. This car has too many advantages considering the roads, society, rules and situations in India. 1. This car is cheapest car available in India, seriously 1,00,000 INR is nothing for a car. Most of the middle class will be able to buy it with EMI (3,000 INR approx) 2. The car has more room than the nearest competitor Maruti 800, but is 8% shorter than that. So it's easy to find a parking space for this car. 3. Roads are not good around here, so even if you can afford you can't dare to drive cars like Lancer in suburbs and rural areas. 4. Yes the maximum speed of this car is only 55 MPH, but hey India is not US. In the most of the parts, there's a speed limit of 50 - 60 KMPH. Anyone driving over that speed is blatantly breaking the law. 5. It is compatible with Euro 3 standards (Pretty surprising, huh?) so emission and pollution is not of that concern. And most importantly it's 50 MPG car dude. 6. Finally, it's a middle class family car, so ofcourse it is not meant for Roadies, Speedsters and SUV driving people. People driving sedans, coupe, SUVs are not going to buy this car, and people who will buy this car, don't generally consider buying a sedan, coupe or SUV.
This is a perfect car for India. Though there is possibility for boom in fuel prices, already there is a great threat for the two wheelers here. As discussed earlier some where in this thread, this car is suitable for metropolitan city drive, where the speed can't exceed 40 kmph due to high traffic. (especially in Bangalore, it will take at least one-and-half hours to travel 10 kms in the peak hours)
It's too small. I don't think it's safe enough. Once you hit something solid I guess there's no chance for you to survive the crash!
Are you sure this is good for India roads? I know from personal experience they are very bumpy and I wouldn't trust a care like this driving there. Also I personally don't trust the safety of this car. All cars with greater security have parts that can take a hit, with this car, there isn't really something to take the hit except you ^^
I can't agree more. I guess you get what you pay for... I still prefer the big ones like Ford pickups
I'm an American in China.. there is a car similar in size and price here in China and it's the laughing stock of cars. People drive them of course, but they'd rather have a buick or nissan than the smallest cheapest car in the world.
I don't know why many people are thinking that this car is like a toy. But in my view, it is a near perfect car for it's intended market (India, East Asian countries like Indonesia, South American Countries like Brazil,Argentina and some parts of Europe). The mileage is very good and also the top speed is good as in India you usually get max speeds like that because of congestion. The car is not cheap for middle class though it's affordable. And finally I believe in Tatas without any doubt. I think this won't be a scrap product. As some car manufacturers said, this car can only be made in India with that price because the work force is cheaper. It's clearly not intended for markets like US. This car also exceeds Euro IV norms and Bharat 3 standards where as 2-wheelers in India pass only Bharat 2 standard. I think many people driving 2-wheelers and 3-wheelers will look for this car very positively. They (2-wheelers and mainly 3-wheelers) are the main cause for traffic jams. Cars don't go zig-zag People talking about pollution First don't use your car if you have one. or If you don't have a car, then ask government to improve transport facilities. Tata's clearly shouldn't feel responsible for the congestion/pollution because concept of cheap car is very subjective And one more thing, US (1/4th of India's population) has 231 mil. cars and India has only ~70 mil.
Well I think this car is perfact for those who doesn't have much money but want to take car. This car is perfact for lots of Indians. I am sure people will looking for it because it just came at 1.20 to 1.50 Lakh.
Its great for what it was designed for but as far as personal taste its certainly not something I would ever consider using just not practical to use where I live as there are loads of big fast roads and that little car would drive me crazy.
Although the NANO has its own disadvantages because of its low price, it will help fulfill the dreams of many ordinary middle class Indians
