Hi, I am in the process of buying a website and I was wondering if GoDaddy charges any fees for transferring a domain from GoDaddy to another hosting company? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Godaddy not charge any fee. in fact no company charge to transfer domain... that company may charge you fee for next year on which you are going to transfer.
Yes only the register you are transferring to will charge for the transfer at usually around the same cost of a renewal as you will get another year added to the expiry date. Godaddy allow a free push to another account as do most registers.
Godaddy doesn't charges any fee for transferring domains, but they do have a 60 day restriction before transferring a domain name if you change the contact name or address in domain whois record.
Godaddy doesn't charge any fee, but they will often make you jump through hoops and wait for ages before they agree to transfer. Expect to get errors when you try to transfer and Godaddy support to say "We're working on it" for months before they finally transfer it. I almost never buy domains that have been registered at Godaddy for this reason.
I just lost a domain last month before of their silly rules of not transferring within 60 days of modifying contact information. I wanted to transfer to namecheap so that I could renew the domain which were expiring in December, since namecheap accepts Paypal while with Godaddy you need to have a certified Paypal or credit card. Those fools forced me to let the domain expire, although I explained well the reason to them and have over 60 domains registered with them. Now that I have been able to transfer some money to them through wire transfer (good as gold), they ask me for 90$ to get the domain out of "redemption". I would prefer to die instead of falling for this scam....
I think the 60days rule is an ICANN policy, sorry to hear about your domain...... and yes, everything that was said in this thread is true, I just transferred the domain and there were no charges from GoDaddy but I did have to add a year's extension for the domain from the new hosting company (another ICANN policy). You've all been very helpful, thanks everyone!
All of you are saying that there will be no transfer fee, I just attempted to transfer a domain to godaddy. The website said $6.99 + 1 year free. At the checkout counter, it said the total price for the transfer was to be ~$14?!!! Sounds to me like they are charging $7 for the transfer, $7 for the first year of registration, and "giving" you the second year of registration for free. Am I missing something? RH
I recently transferred two domains from GoDaddy to another registrar. GoDaddy does not charge you with anything. You will get an e-mail stating that a domain transfer has been requested. It says that you have to respond within a certain amount of days if you do not want the transfer to proceed. If you don't, the domains will be transferred after that period. It works without a problem. Tip: make sure the domain is "unlocked". Also remove any private registration.
Godaddy are cheap thats it, i have few sites with them and they are shocking im moving as soon as i can get the funds up, they dont let you run a few scripts, give you no access to the cgi-bin well the do but what they have done to it no scripts will run well
We were all talking about transferring from GoDaddy, and not to GoDaddy.. whichever company you transfer a domain TO, you will be charged a fee.
No,Godaddy does not charge any fees for transferring domain from Godaddy hosting to another hosting company
If you transfer in the domain there will be charges , if you transfer out the domain no charges. So basically the reg from which you are transferring won't charge but to which you will transfer will charge.
