Id have to agree there. SMF have a lot of free themes and mods for you to use too! And the support forum is very helpful. :)

I prefer phpBB3 because of the complexity, but of course, some people prefer to keep things simple. SMF is best if you want to quickly set up a forum but phpBB definatly offers you greater control over your forum than the rest.

phpbb is the one. I have used it for many years now with mods but i am a php expert anyway.

SMF is an exploiters dream and even now the new 1.1.4 has some holes in it!

PhpBB3 > Simple Machines Forum > Fireboard for Joomla
Free really means PhpBB... Don't worry, it exports easily enough to vBulletin or Invision.

I prefer SMF above all others. Easy to use, not bloated, great community, etc.

When i used phpBB version 2 i used to get loads of spam each day, it was awful. I moved over to SMF and haven't had the problem since. It also offers more features and settings, such as more user privalages, control, etc. I dont know about phpBB3 though. I dont like the new layout.

Everyone will tell you phpBB, SMF or myBB. I advise you try all 3 and see what suits you best. :)

SMF was the one I was trying to remember. Downloaded phpBB and uploaded but havent finished install. myBB is worth considering huh?

Hmmm. Well, thanks everyone! It certainly narrows down the choices.

PHPBB 3 is pretty good. If you get custom templates, it looks great
