Ive always thought that the .com extension is the best to use, but I wonder if it is also best using an extension by the amount of users you get from specific countries, Many of my sites hold a lot of iran traffic, would I be better of buying .ir domain names instead of .com, Also, do .info domains have much value to them
It depends...if you want to develop a site then the domain extension doesn't really matter, but if you want to sell a domain its better to have a decent extension rather than an extension that not many people will remember.
I see a lot of people doing this. They usually tend to use .info domains as they can pick them up for cheaper than all other domain extensions!
Well, yeah they are fairly cheap, I wanted to sell perhaps make a nice profit of at least $20 or so, , but I also see many .info sites selling for cheap sometimes a measly $15.
Well, it also depends on the niche of the site and how good the content etc is as well that determines how much a site will sell for.
Actually, depends on your budget. If I were you and had the budget, I'd go for .com, if not then .ir (if site related with Iran). Big no-no for .info. Niche is means focusing on a specific market (site type) and group of people. For example, I'm in sports niche, I make sites related to sports and try to make it popular in sports lover. (It's just an example, I'm nowhere near sports sites).
But do more people in Iran know about the .ir than the com ? That is an important question. In several countries, newbies to the internet think that it contains just a .com, and will type that out into their browser.
Probably, [dot]com,[dot]net and [dot]info are the popular extensions. I ain't suggesting [dot]info, because he will do flipping sites, and a [dot]info domain makes you look cheap, uh.. your site. Remember, if he's not going to develop sites little big, then the domain extension would matter a lot.
Um, wrong section.....we have a domain name section here on DP: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=45 To answer your question, I wouldn't waste my money buying a ccTLD like .ir, it's a crap ccTLD & also has no resale value. If you get traffic coming from Iran or wherever, why not just stick to the .com that you already have??? Unless you're just wanting to specifically target Iran traffic only, I wouldn't buy the .ir extention. Also, it would be a lot more expensive than a .com
