Our pug is already 10 months old but it seems like he only have 1 "testicle". Is it normal or shouldn't there be two? will it just split in two?
Nope they will not split and no it is not normal. Vet might be able to tell you more hun. I just do not know much about dogs as I have cats. I do know though that is not normal. Shawn
Can't miss what you've never had. Lucky he's a dog. Nobody will laugh at him when he and the other dog...
I saw on one of those dog shows for the kennel association. On it they were talking about your pups issue. They usually have to help it by giving it a slight pull. Usually the vet will do this for the little guy.
It may be that he has two, but one has not "dropped". Sometimes testicles can remain up inside the body and not drop down into their normal position. You should get it checked by a vet as I believe it can cause problems, including incresed risks of certain problems/diseases, such as reduced fertility (though that might not worry you!) and testicular cancer. Or... he may just have only one, which shouldn't be a problem. Luckily doggies don't have an image issue with their manly parts. Or, not that I'm aware of.
Presence one testicle in the scrotum (pouch like skin holding the testicle) is a developmental anomaly and this condition is called monorchidism. There are many reasons for this incidence and one among them is congenital (birth defect). Consult your local veterinarian so that your confusion is cleared. The dog should not be used for breeding as it has the tendency to pass the defect to its next generations
