Hi everyone. What are the disadvantages of registering a domain with an ending that is not .com (.mobi , .info, .biz exc.) . Will a site with one of these endings not be indexed in search engines as well as .coms? Also does anyone know what are the highest valued domain endings, after .coms, Is .info more valuable than a .name , exc. Thanks for any info
Pretty much anything is better than .name. All of them have the same chance of being indexed in the search engines as .com, and in fact some people think that Google gives preference to country code extensions (such as co.uk or .de when ranking sites for search queries from that country). IMO, the key with alternative extensions is relevance. For instance, if your project is mainly about a cause (other than making money for yourself), .org would be great. If you are targeting the United Kingdom or Germany, .co.uk or .de are almost expected. The problem is that in many cases you will leak some traffic to the holder of the .com version. And there are some extensions that do not have a very good reputation, such as .biz and some country codes. But of course, you can't go wrong with a good .com.
From a SEO point of view, extention doesn't matter. From a resale value, it does. Here's the order of a few: com net org info us biz name
If you are going to make a small site, extension does not matter. But if you are spending a lot of money on advertising, .com is preferred
.com/net/org is much more well known among general public and less chances for people to misspell your domain name.
