I pay $7.77 for my domains at cleverdot. I've been using them for awhile now and I've been happy with their customer service. Don't know of anyone cheaper, but then again I haven't been looking either.

    1and1.com

    name.com

5.99 all the time no coupon. I've never used name.com but like 1and1.com

name.com is good and cheap, and their privacy protection is free. But I never got email sent to the forward email address they provide. I have asked their support long time ago, and their support have tried to help me solve the problem many time. But, I still cann't get the email sent to that address. Anyway, their support is good IMO.

You made a good choice between Name.com & 1&1 as 1&1 have a crap rep in the domaining industry. I would never buy from them personally.

In regards to Whois protection, I believe you get it for free as part of Name.com but I've never bothered with it so can't really comment on it.

I use 1and1.com. No issues. They even let me transfer when I wanted once.
