    Friends

Does nofollow tag have any value in Search engine? Apart from driving traffic to your website, what else in can be helpful for?

Or it is just for driving traffic and nothing else.?

    it's seo issue only .
if a link is added a nofollow tag,
it means that it will not get any link juice (Google PR).
for example, simply the page is PR5 and there is totally 10 links on the same page,
each link will get 5/10 PR juice.

However - as I just found out - links that have "nofollow" do still give useful weight as anchor text. You won't get PR gains, but you do still get the keyword-specific gains from the anchor text.

I realised this after a single link to a page I'm involved in was added as a "nofollow" link. I saw a noticeable improvement in SERPS for the relevant term soon afterwards on Google, MSN and Yahoo, and the rankings for this term have been pretty much flat for a long time previously.

Howard is right, I noticed exact same thing also. It may not give any value to PR but it does help in Serps.
    Thanks for your opinions

Apart from improving your SERPs, it will also help drive the traffic up:)

I do believe that nofollow tags do contribute to SERP eventually. However, concentrate on the traffic and exposure first :)

no follow can also bring traffic and give some backlinks in other SEs (in Google, have less value)

Better to control your site using robots.txt or .htaccess.

    nofollow is probably ignored anyway.

Does the increase in SERPs from a backlink not depend a lot of the PR of the link. e.g a PR5 backlink will push you up further than a PR0 backlink? or otherwise what is the point of getting high PR backlinks. Who cares about PR then.

The only value Pr would have is that high PR sites won't exchange links with you if you have a low PR site, but if PR of the link doesn't matter then why not get just PR0 links!

I still believe that links from nofollow sites still gets value from the anchor text it just don't get the PR juice.

    To summarise:

    * All additional links have the potential to increase traffic to your site (kind of obvious). This is true regardless of PR, nofollow tags etc. A link is a link.
    * PR does affect SERPS. All other things being equal, a page with higher PR will appear higher in the SERPS than a page with a lower PR. But the thing that's often overlooked is that PR is independent from the search query. In many cases, the different search term densities of two different pages (in title, headings, text, alt tags etc) will outweigh PR differences. If it didn't, every search you did would keep returning PR9 or 10 sites!
    * regular links (without nofollow) give a PR boost to your page, and links from higher PR pages give more of a boost. This helps the page SERPS.
    * links with "nofollow" don't give a PR boost, but still give extra search-term specific weighting to your page via the anchor text. This helps the page SERPS.

It's this last point I hadn't appreciated until recently. I've seen comments before suggesting that there's no point getting links that are "nofollow", as they give no SERPS gains - but this isn't true.
