Just saw this in my inbox today, for those familiar with PopScript.com they are huge rip off artists in the Script Business, they sell clone scripts of other sites for ridiculous amounts of money and don't offer support at all. Plus most of the scripts they sell are garbage anyways.. But I am sure most of you have heard of them.



This is there "NEW" Facebook Clone.. Price: $189.97

Can you guess what script this is? Yup you guessed it, its the exact script of Dolphin by Boonex and they have totally just put there name on top of it! They also designed a 3D Box to showcase a facebook look.
If you know Dolphin's script it is more similar to Myspace than facebook, and there is really no similarities to facebook at all! And to just plaster their name on it and sell it for $190.00 BIG ONES!??

"Best part is this software is Open Source and GPL so there are no license restrictions." Well thats because Dolphin is GPL!

Doesn't this just scream professionalism from this company? Good God.
I think they are just hoping some one who is ignorant to the Dolphin software see's it and doesn't have any idea that they can get this script for free!

Also notice how there is no DEMO link to be found?? Just wanted to put this warning out there to some of you who might end up coming across this in your search for Social Networking Scripts. Do not buy it it is a HUGE SCAM!

Are you serious? Did you even read the thread? I wouldn't purchase it from Popscript.com because I am not that dumb... You can download the script from boonex.com. Its called Dolphin.

 

Dolphin looks like a great script. I had never heard of it before, thanks for pointing it out.

I can't believe that company is profiting off of their hard work. I wonder what kind of legal action they can take? Have you notified them of Popscripts selling their script?

 

I got ripped off as well.

I purchased image hosting package way back and had trouble installing.
I talked to support and tell them my server specs and so on.

After that they told me to send $30 for installation on their side.
I paid them and they cant install. Then another staff sends me msg saying they forgot to send me 1 more file with donwload.!!!

I aksed them refund for installation but they said they "looked" in server so $30 is theirs.

 

Well i have their script and never use it because it's too unprofessional, a bit of this and a bit of that.

 

It has a lot of bugs and when the pain (load) comes, it dies. Their support tells me they tested with 'millions of visitors'; yeah right; I can *prove* that is a lie Talking about Dolphin here.

 

I hope Google will index this thread and put it to the first page on the SERPS so nobody will be scammed by these guys.

 

It's a GPL script, anyone can rebrand and resell it, they just have to sell their script as GPL as well.

 

Yeah but the thing is they are trying to profit off of the fact that some people may be ignorant when it comes to the fact that they don't know that they can get this script for free! They are asking for almost $200.00 for something they didn't even make! How professional is that? It just proves that they are just run of the mill scammers trying to make a quick buck.

And they say its a FACEBOOK clone! Dolphin doesn't even have any similarities to facebook! Just look at there list of functions and features : speed dating, lol! Thats the dolphin platform (or what it used to be used for)

It just all in all makes me sick to my stomach..

Wow, I wish I had found this thread three days ago.. I just lost a couple hundred dollars to popscript. They sent me a bunch of zip files that don't even have the sites I paid for in them.. and a few of the sites that were correct don't work!! I emailed about all this and they IP banned me.. so now to even go on the site I have to use a proxy. To top it all off paypal doesn't refund now for "intangible" goods?!?

I got screwed!!!!

 

Hey, this should make you guys day.. the popscript weirdos lurk this thread.. they emailed me within a few hours of posting to tell me they were going to put my personal information on their website for the world to see, haha. Now if someone searches for me they will find the horrible looking popscript website instead of myspace, OH NO! I guess it made them mad when I asked why a competitors email address was hidden inside all their scripts..

 

What a bunch of SCAMMERS!! It makes me sick to my stomach to read all of these horrible reviews. I cannot believe they IP banned you mscott! And to top it off they said they would put your personal information on their website for the world to see. This has got to be illegal. What script did you buy from them by the way? Was it PHP Facebook Clone AKA Dolphin by Boonex?? Any legal experts have an opinion on this?

For everyone seriously thinking about buying ANYTHING from Popscript.com please reconsider because you will be out your time and hard earned money from dealing with them at all.

Hmmm, i recall seeing these guys out and about a few months ago trying to flog off Dolphin too.

Just on a side note: Any one who is paying them via PayPal should probably try and fund from a VISA card rather than PayPal balance. I have recently had success with a scammer on DP here who would not refund a 'defective' product, PayPal would not reverse the charge because they 'cannot guarantee the condition of a delivered item', however if you use VISA for funding, call VISA and tell them it was a fraudulent item (i.e Not what was ordered) and they will reverse the charge, then PayPal will reverse it too =)

 

i have all the scripts they are ripping off. Im putting up a site and im letting them go for free. If you want to donate what ever, if not, what ever, its free.

NO one knows how annoyed I am!!! I stupidly bought the "PHP Myspace Gold 8.10" off them. They made it sound SOOO good. But it sucks. No one buy from them. The scripts look SO bad.

I kid no one! It took me ONE YEAR to accumulate $85 in my PayPal account for the script and the basic install service. And all it is, is RUBBISH! They took down the demo because it was rubbish. Since I couldn't view the demo online, I bought it. STUPIDLY!!!!!

Some examples:

FORUM - uses PHPBB which is ==>FREE<== (is it?, I don't know).
WEATHER - uses the MSN weather site ==>FREE<== (LAME!!!)
MEDIA CENTER - uses the coppermine photo gallery http://coppermine-gallery.net/ ==>FREE<== (LAME AGAIN!!! THEY ARE ALL FREE)

You can't even upload your own videos. You can only link them to other sites (ie. youtube) ALL of the modules are made FREE! If I could get my hands on the admin of his site I will seriously KILL HIM, stab him (even though he is already dead), kick his balls, push him off a cliff, etc...

Please, is there ANY way I can at least get back my $49.95 for the rubbish script? I seriously am crying right now (not lying). Can I somehow tell PayPal my story or anything?

Thank you everyone and the main thing...DO NOT buy ANYTHING from POPSCRIPT!!!! All they want is your money and after that, they don't even reply to the support tickets that I have made anymore.
