Why is it so hard for me to bring up my PR?

I've been trying to bring up my PR for the second website in my signature and it seems IMPOSSIBLE. I've submitted my site to 500 directories and I've been distributing an article to article directories. I've emailed several wholesale-related websites to trade links with and they all never responed. I think it's because they have PR and I don't. How can I bring up my PR initially so I can move on to trading links with related sites? I've had other website before in the past that were extremely easy to bring up the PR. Is it because I have enormous competition for the keywords I'm going after? Will changing the keywords make it easier?

make a search with below syntax in Google.

    link: www.yoursite.com

[Make sure there is a space after ':']

This will show you the back links you are gonna get in next update. Ask link traders to make similar search for your website and convince them that you are gonna have good pr in next update.

Exchanging link is something that don't work much now a days. Go for Article submission have your own controlled article at Hubpages.com

Initially when I didn't do anything the PR was 6, I started doing things it went down to 5, now recently it went to 4. I think I will stop doing things hopefully it will come back to 6.

Have you done on-the-page optimization well? I know Off-the-page is much important but you must do it well in both sectors.
eg. Why you are putting your URL address in Title?
Have you done your research with your keyword and check your competitors?
I think the link partners will check How well have you optimize your website.
So there are few things to keep in mind.

I have seen several instances of low PR sites outranking and getting more traffic than high PR sites. I'd say that unless you are selling links or a consultant who promised an increase in PR, I'd spend more time increasing my SE position. I have a PR2 site that outranks plenty of PR4 or PR5 sites. I do think that articles are a good way to increase PR though. I did some a few years back, and although they took time to circulate, they did increase PR. Also, rumor has it that Google is "modifying, underating, changing, the PR algorithm. Supposed to be combating link selling. Hopefully others will comment on this, as I know how frusterating it can be to put hard work into a site and see no PR or traffic increases. Time is your friend!

i have heard an interview from a guru. He mentioned that PR is just for branding or reputation. Nothing to do with getting more traffic.

Just took a look at your site... A few quick items...
    1) Title is waaaaaayyyyyyy too long. Less words = more weight per word. I'd narrow it down to my keywords. Also, as Matsuri said... URL's gotta go!

2)"All the wholesalers and distributors in our directory require a tax id" in the desc... Way too much. You can have a too short decription, but if I owned the website, I wouldn't talk people (looky loos) out of coming in the door.

3)H1 tag would be better with keywords. Modify size with css if neccassary.

    4) Place a few images, even if only "bullets" or something, and include alt text and title text in them.

5)Try to get keywords at bottom of page...

PR IS WORTHLESS, why do you people not understand that yet.

Who cares what your PR is, what search term are you going after and where do you rank for it, thats what I would be concerned with.

No, PR is accumulated depending on the number or the PR of your backlinks

That is the worst advice people spread on this forum. Doing such a search will only display websites that have that syntax on their site. And it will also exclude those websites that use an anchor text - which should be the majority hopefully.

The way to find your real backlinks is to go to Yahoo: http://www.yahoo.com/ and search for "link:yoursite" without the quotes and http,www. com whatever.

You say that PR is worthless! How come? Let Google delete it from their algorithm if it is worthless. You are just discouraging somebody so that they will not be obsessed with PR. So funny anyway! Google created it with reasons...Can yo tell me why it is worthless? Since PR played an important role in their (google) algorithm...Dont say it is worthless, just say less importance I think....

Page rank (PR) is based on the number of inbound links does your site have. As of now , Google is now strict in giving page rank for a site because some of the selling paid links manipulate it. It is important that you submit your site to a "related " links or site and "don't spam" because Google might filter it. Just continue with the link building and wait for the PR update. Keyword and Page rank is much different , keywords or SERPs is important factor to be visible on the search engine while page rank is just for the "link popularity" or to make your site "popular".

== here's why you are not getting any PR ==
your site was registered in Nov 27 and i think you uplaoded the site in Dec 2. last PR update google did was back in Oct 07 and next update is expected sometime late Feb or early march. when google updates their PR next time, you will see PR change given that you spent time in link building.

i see some comments above regarding title which is very important in terms of overall SEO but doesn;t have anything to do with toolbar PR
