Is there any trademark issue on domains like googlesucks.com?

    Google bought googlesucks.com/net/org.

Google owns the trademark, Google bought the domains. So what's your question?

Are you planning on trying to buck the system by purchasing .info, .biz, etc? If so, get your lawyer on retainer, and fill up your wallet. You're gonna need both.

Not as long as you are just protesting or expressing displeasure with G(oo)gle. If you try to put up an adsense page you might have a problem though :).

I guess you could still use YPN as long as it did not offer any G(oo)gle services in the ads.

But like Pegeler said, if the own it what's the point

It seems the original registrant and formal owner of googlesucks.com/net/org isn't google. Why google pay for these domains? If there are trademark issues, they can get them through law.

They most likely paid for them... A big corporation like google doesn't need to waste the time to have a lawyer run over there because some small fry in the middle of no where bought googlesucks lol..

Also I am pretty sure that what he said is right:

Not sure how google approaches this issue but a lot of companies will only come after you if you

    a. set up a site for commerce
    b. use the name to promote the no nos (adult, hate, etc.)

I was recently taught this lesson by godaddy when I purchased nodaddycoupons.com. I used this site to sell information to get domains without coupon codes. It lasted 2 days and godaddy ordered its removal. However, they allow Nodaddy.com to stay up even though it is a godaddy bashing site. Since no commerce is taking place under their trademark they leave it alone.

It is most likely a matter of not wanting someone to trash them in a website called Google sucks. They could fight in court but it is much easier to just pay and be done with it. If they spend the money for legal cost and lose they lost some big money so it is easier just to pay for the names.

So, does it mean, even some domains have trademark issue, they can still wait for a good price. So, their value is greater than zero.

Some trademark domains that are not in the hands of the trademark owners hands are NEGATIVE since you may have to pay legal fees. I'd stay away from trademarks. Not worth the hassle.

i own _ _ _MySpace_ _ _.com and hope there is no problems but i look at it as BAD publicity is still publicity and after it hits the news of some small entrepenour getting sued and all the hits you receive you would still be able to make enough money through PPC's to get a lawyer LOL

    also i look at like this . . .

Paris Hilton tried to get . . . THATS HOT !

    and

    Donald Trumph tried to get . . . YOU'RE FIRED !

both spent millions and BOTH LOST, i look at like this if you dont use their logo you dont steal their members and you just operate YOUR OWN site then its called competition GOOGLE.com is probably trademarked NOT GOOGLESUCKS.com that is 2 different words and it could say GOO GLE (what whatever you want that to be is ) SUCKS

so i wish someone would try to take me to court for something as petty as a domain. LETS GO

All I've got to say is lol. You must not have many domains... If you knew how valuable some domains are, you might change your opinion and understand why domains are pursued.

Paris Hilton and Trump tried to buy the words not the websites and my point is you cant trademark "names" but say names with the "logo" are a different story or say JUST the names alone but noone can buy another Google.com because Google.com is already bought

If you mean personal names, care to explain this?

And no, it's not because the USPTO is stupid. It's because Mr. Urban managed
to satisfy their requirements for filing a registration and later getting approval.

And in case you wonder who the heck he is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Urban

He's currently suing for his domain name-sake. Still pending.

If it is not for commerce and used for discussion, chances are it is a hard fight for the trademark laywers.

I will like to extend the thread:

If i have googleRocks.com and googleSucks.com concurrently, does it makes for any legal defense if google for the sucks domain only and not both domain?

At the end of the day, it boils down to consumer confusion. It so happens that
non-commercial uses appear to have better chances, barring a few exceptions
    involving uniquely famous trademarks.

It really depends if the trademark holder wants to make it an issue, and how far
both parties are willing to go.

well just to put it out there i own www.SexiestMySpaceWomen.com

the reason i chose that was because i was not going to buy
Sexiest My Space For Women . com because "google" frowns upon "stop" words so any takers on this up hill battle ? and if i get taken to court ALL my 30 some odd domains will go public in the blink of an eye, thats all i need to be a millionaire is for some one to waste a couple hundred thousand dollars to try and get a 9 dollar domain from me when ALL my other ones will be made public . . . i dont think that any of these major people care about our small dreams when they are crushing them DAILY or should i say by the second UNLESS we are in some way stealing money from them, if you are just trying to operate your own deal i find it hard BECAUSE i didnt buy MySpace. com i bought other names and 2 of the names in my domain just happen to be MY SPACE i would like to see some one take me to court because my lawyers will still be sitting at their desk waiting for a true crimianl action to appear for me in !
