Is anyone else having problems getting the verification image to work. I am typing in what I see on the image and it keeps giving me the same error: "Please verify the text in the image The text in the image and the text you submit in the input field must match. If you cannot read the text, refresh the submission form. " I've tried refreshing the page and everything. I am using IE7 so I am unsure why I am having trouble with this.
I close the broswer and opened it again and it worked fine. This was the second time I did this. I wonder if the servers are busy.
yes , it does have problems sometimes , but i would not term it as defunct or not working etc. Just try it 2-3 times and it will work out .

When I first got into building sites no one could sumbit for the longest time and everyone was saying dmoz was dead.
Yes, there was a major crash. Lots of suggestions were lost, but all of the published approved listings were recovered. That is why we tell people that if you submitted before the crash, and haven't submitted since, it's worthwhile submitting one more time. Yes, people were saying that the ODP was dead. People were saying that AOL had lost all interest in it. Since the crash, new servers have been bought, years-old (and obviously ineffective) back-up procedures examined and revised. Staff have opened up a blog, to try to communicate better with the outside world, and the internal editor tools have improved in speed and reliability. You can question the ODP's relevance, you can question many things, but dead it is not. As for the CAPTCHA image verification, we have had updates from staff that they are working on it. We have had no estimate for the date of any improvements passed on to us, though. The voices of those that commented about it WAS heard.
I had to try 5-6 times but it finally took it. When was the actual crash? I hate to submit sites again and clog up the list.
Anything sent last year is safe, the crash was at the end of 2006. So no need to re-submit sites offered in 2007 or 2008.
I just tried to submit 4 times, with reading glasses & magnifing glass still couldn't get past the image!!
