Your question is a big vague. so I'm not entirely sure what you're attempting to do.

So your English version is installed at 1800places.com - and you want to install a Spanish version at 1800places.com/spanish/ - correct?

Are you attempting to install a fresh directory in the spanish subfolder, or simply use the same database and then use a Spanish translator?

Please post more details about what you are attempting to do otherwise it is near impossible to answer. I would assume the redirect issue is because you have not included the correct line in the htaccess file. As default it is set as:

    ErrorDocument 404 /index.php?httpstatus=404

You need to change this line to:

    ErrorDocument 404 /spanish/index.php?httpstatus=404

Perhaps this will solve your issue?

    Delete the folder /spanish.

    Recreate the folder.

Upload the phpLD files to the server.create a NEW database. modify the .htaccess file. It should be the exact same setup procedure as the root domain, with the exception of the htaccess modification. You also require 2 phpLD licenses for a second installation.

its because your htacess is rewriting everything to the main domain, me thinks.

so why doesn't the subdomain name show on the net, even without any files it should show something a directory listing at least. Are you managing your own A Records ? if you are you need to add one, pointing to spanish.1800places.com

Basically if you get the subdomain name to work you wont have to edit any .htaccess or template files

Here's another, simpler idea. Who are you hosting with? ie. what control panel software is installed on the server? I would assume you have cpanel, as you say you are clicking subdomain to install a subdomain. What is the problem of creating a subdomain as spanish.1800places.com and set the folder location as 1800places.com/spanish/ ?

I highly doubt there will be a phpLD translator around, but you can certainly try find one! I would seriously advise that you:

    1) Re-download the phpLD files, unedited.
    2) Extract the files and upload them to your server in /spanish/ folder
    3) Create a brand new database.
    4) Specify database details in config.php
    5) Edit the htaccess to incorporate the edit I mentioned previously.
    6) Navigate to 1800places.com/spanish/install
    7) Install (using IE - Firefox 2 generally does not work for installation)

If it still doesn't work after you have done that, let me know and perhaps I'll take a look at it for you.
