Why does google do that - you upgrade the site and it dumps you

So I recently upgraded my site to work on php, no longer on normal html. Much easier to work this way, to make sub pages load...

All the text and everything remained the same, only items in menu have changed urls. So now google dropped me because of that, I used to rank very high for some great keywords, now I am nowhere to be found.

Happned before to my friends also. You upgrade your site, make it better for user and more functional and google drops you back to bottom. They needed 6 months to come back where they were.

    How stupid is that?

You might want to read up about using .htaccess for 301 redirects,

It's not stupid at all - if the pages have got different urls then they are new and different pages.
centime's right, if you don't want them to be treated as new and different pages you need to redirect from the old ones.

Ok, I forgot to add this. The only thing changed is how menu behaves. Basicly all the menu items open in iframe on that site and google did not index that pages that were opening in iframe. So I thought if google did not index thoose sites, than there can't be a problem with me dropping.

But I still did, just for changing my menu items names.

I don't have navigation menu in iframe. Items that you choose in navigaton menu open in iframe.

Anyway, here's what I've been thinking. Is it possible that google dropped me because my direct typin traffic dropped? I have dome advertising on a webpage and a lot of people seing it there typed in my sites name.

Advertising is gone now and I am getting about 30% less traffic. Is is possible that google somehow saw that and degraded my site because of that (maybe thought it is not so interesting any more for visitors)?

Don't take this the wrong way, but your site isn't the center of the internet.

If your sites pages now open in iframes then it may appear to search engines and users that your site has less pages.

If you are upgrading your site from html to php then using iframes should not be part of that upgrade.

    You should reconsidor this change.

Have you tried using 301 redirects? If you're using iframes, then ditch those.
