Are you planning on developing it or just for resale? Or if you're interested in buying a true "Wii" name, I got Wii dot gd which is for sale, can stand for Gaming Device
It really depends of what the other letters are - if they are just random letters I wouldn't bother as there are 2028 ((26 * 26) * 3) 5 letter combinations that have the string "wii" in them.
Like norfstar said, don't bother on junk. If it's like: mywii.com definitely go for it, or bewii.com even or urwii.com but not xkwii.com or sawii.com...get the point?
Yeh, it is alright...because "to" is a word and you can say "To Wii" as in to play Wii, but isn't wii trademarked?
Because it's not registered when that's not required for a trademark to exist? A trademark is created when one uses the word or so in commerce, so isn't that what Nintendo's doing? Ignore what k3v said, Little Honey. Wii is a trademark, although its registrations are still pending at the United States Patents and Trademarks Office. One of these days I'm going to blog about some of the myths about trademarks and domain names, this being one of them.
Until Wii mark is not official approved is not yet a trademark and all wii domain owner can keep thier domains because they registered before wii becomed a trademark.
If Wii is trademarked and therefore off-limits, how come when I started this thread I got others offering to sell me their wii domains?
I figured you'd say that. Some people maintain this perception of trademarks needing to be registered in order to exist. Here's what USPTO says: http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/tac/tmfaq.htm Now based on those, do you still think Nintendo doesn't have a trademark if it is being used in commerce, even though they're not registered yet? Additionally: http://www.wipo.int/amc/en/domains/search/overview/index.html#14 I don't recall the case, but there was one where a complainant sued in court asserting common law trademarks. I'll ask some attorneys I know about it. Also, some trademark holders nowadays file UDRPs as a cheaper alternative to going to court. I've seen at least 2 where the trademark had existed after the domain name was registered, but the domain names were still taken. OTOH, I haven't read anything about Nintendo going after such. I guess they aren't interested yet, but I'll be chuckling if I start seeing complaints of such after and those sites displayed commercial use. Maybe to cash in and dump their potential liabilities on you. It's your call, Little Honey. I'm just telling you what to be aware of, then you decide.
Hey I too have a wii domain. Its WiiTalk.info I think it a nice domain. I may sell it if i get a good offer.
Hey, it is a nice domain but sorry, I don't think you will get too nice of an offer...Don't quote me on it, loads of end users out there. I just base that because talkwii would be strong, even though it doesnt look as pretty, and you have the .info extension. "Talk" is usually referred to for a forum and .info isn't the best extension for a forum. Still has low $xx reseller value, potential end user, good luck
