How to market and promote Social bookmarking sites.

I have recently started a Free Social Bookmarking site like digg.com. I am not sure about how to get traffic for it. I have started regular seo. If there are any special promotion methods for Social Bookmarking sites, Please share it here.

I think you should first ask yourself what is the purpose of your site, and as a visitor why you should use it instead of another digg like site (or instead of digg....)

This is very important for a community based site, because this site is nothing without people, and people must have a real motive to join.

 

You have made a valuable point there. I never thought it in your approach. I just launched it as I love web2.0 sites. I have to think from the people view point to get better ideas, Thanks.

 

well you just advertised it quite well I think. you will get a few signups from this post. Post at several forums. also press releases. Pick a topic your site is associated with and write an article. Digg it - Stumble it

There are lots of SB sites you can submit your blog posts or articles.... This will boost your traffic....This SB is one of techniques in generating backlinks....

The only negative point for me was the front page seemed a little cluttered?
If you look at sites like Digg, the front page is a "showcase" page.

you may also use auto submit bookmarking check my signature. It really helps me alot when it come in submitting bookmarks to diff social bookmarking sites.
