Whether your guppies bred or you are a commercial breeder... I'm quite interested in the subject and have bred a few fish, but failed with a few too. Any serious aquarists in the house?
I used to breed Guppies, the Black and White Mollies, Red Sword Tail. Guppies don't need any expertise to breed. In fact, they are the easiest to breed. Have plenty of water plants in the tank (yeah the ones that grow long?). By doing this, the new born ones can go and hide there and avoid being eaten by the big ones. This usually happens to me. Whenever the mother is delivering the babies, a strange odor is let out no matter how big the tank is! This way, I know and get to find the young ones and separate them from the adults. Usually aquarium fish suffer from a fungal disease with their fins and tails turning white. Solution: Drain the contents of a capsule called Tetracycline into the tank. This will prevent fish from getting that deadly disease. Let me know if you need any other information!
for sure, up until i moved house 6 month back, i had a school of red bellied piranhas in a huge aquarium in my moms living room. you should have seen those guys eat a slice of ham, gone in less than 2 seconds, maybe even 1.5 but when i moved home and left the tank behind for a while till i got settled in at my new house, i left the maintenence to my mom and she killed them all on me can post my piccy please, i cant do image links yet http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/4ba2871099.jpg
Shame, they do get nasty as they get older. A friend had some, and the slowly killed each other. I think you need a huge tank to keep these sucessfully (or a secret island, with a pool of them to lower your enimies into). If I were to keep them, i'd buy babies and take them back to the shop once they were 6 or 7 inches long. Best to check the shop will take them first though. They look so much nicer when they are small too. There are vegetarian pirahnas too...
Yeah, I am an aquarist. I have bred Mollies, Platys and Panda Corys. Once I have a little more space available I plan to try breeding something a little tougher to breed. I created a site about aquarium fish you can check out at www.bbayaquariums.com
I will destroy the piranhas, no offense, imagine the consequence if they somehow get to a fresh water lake through drains or canals. I do breed siamese fighting fish when I was younger, they are much easier to breed, the males are extremely colorful and you do make money selling them. I am trying breed arrowanas I think it will be very good profit and they are really graceful but I can't find any breeders, shops do sell those farm breed ones, but no one seem to know how to get the breeders and how to breed them. I guess it is a commercial secret, which I am try to find out
