    What country are you in?

In Australia (and I guess everywhere else) you need a set top box to receive and decode digital terrestrial television signals. It's no big deal, a cheap n nasty STB is only about AUD$40 and the pic quality is excellent - and if you have a HD TV, then you'll be able to view HD broadcasts in all their glory.

Some newer TVs have a digital receiver/tuner built in.

I don't give a crap about analog TV, I can't pick it up here anyway :)

This is an au site, but it's worth a read: http://www.dba.org.au/

If you have cable tv it does not matter old tv will still work. If you use antenna you need converter box to get tv signals.

Most households in my country already has cable tv so it does not affect us that much.

Just a heads up for those in the USA. Your government is giving away free coupons to purchase a digital receiver for when the analog broadcasts stop in 2009.

At least the viewers can expect a delight with the latest digital technology, which is common in developing countries :)
