Hello, sorry if this is in the wrong place, not sure where to list this

i have just launched a vbulletin forum...

install was fine and the forum works ok, however when you make a post, it does not show up for about 3-4 mins even though it should be instant!

Ive made no mods or plugins, just changed a few colours.

My server is with webfusion shared hosting pro.

Ive only got a few members at the mo with only 20 odd visits per day surely this wouldnt be a server issue ?

anyone had this problem, what can i do ?

Thanks for testing it temon, but the actually making a post is not the problem.

Whats happening is that its not updating the forum index, so when you make a post its not showing up on the index page for about 5 mins.

    This should update instantly

I have another forum which is powered by phpbb on the same kind of hosting and this updates posts instantly, so i know the server should handle it

I did contact vbulletin, but they said just disable the plugins and re-upload in ASCII format

I dont have any plugins installed

What is ASCII format ??? i just use coreftp to upload, is it a setting somewhere ??

Yeah there is a setting somewhere i couldnt tell you where it is in coreftp but in cuteftp (the client i use) if you go to options then transfer there is a transfer method option where you can either choose from binary or ascii.

You can get a trial version of cuteftp so there is no worry about having to pay out, the company who makes it is called globalscape. If you still have problems after re-uploading feel free to PM me ;)

    Thanks,

Been looking through coreftp and theres 3 options to choose from

    ASCII
    Binary
    Auto

It was set to auto, does this mean it has or has not been uploaded in ASCII ?

Is there a way to check ??

If it was set to auto it was more than likely uploaded as binary, i suppose you could look through your ftp logs i imagine it would be in there but it would probably be faster just to re-upload as you may need to anyway :)

Binary is a numbering system of 1's and 0's used to represent all data at the processor level.

ASCII is a character encoding system consisting of 256 bits (256 digits of 1s and 0s)

Both exist at completely different levels of abstraction.

So does this make an ASCII quicker ?

What does it actually do ?

Just been reading up on the internet and it says if i did in fact upload it in binary mode i would have errors everywhere.

i dont have any errors, does this mean it did upload it in ASCII ??
