Hi, If my website sells digital cameras, and I get a long tail traffic for cannon digital camera a20d, but the serp will send the user to the main page, in which I do not have that specific product showing, is it ok with google if i send him to the product page of the right camera? maybe I can just make a dynamic index.php that will show the same layout of the homepage, but also the right product description. Please help.
My advice is try not to do redirect to display the right product because this will result in duplicate content. The problem is that your website is not properly indexed in the main index, try typing this whole line ---> site:http://www.yourwebsite.com/* which will reflect the pages that are in main index. These are the pages that will appear more likely in SERPs. Is there any pages that contains cannon digital camera a20d? Maybe you can write an article on cannon digital camera a20d and link it from you main page, writing a good content about the product with a link out to cannon page will tell Google that this page is highly related to cannon digital camera a20d and may just get it into Google's main index too.
the word camera is symenticaly associated with the word cannon so there will be no issue. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&gl=us&q=~camera&btnG=Search
my entire site is indexed by google. the camera was an example. I'm not talking about creating a different page, but more of adding content dynamically to the main page.
I'd sooner create a page for the individual products and hope the SERP's lead them to the correct pages...
Just have a good navigation on your page, your user will be able to find the stuffs he need even if he lands on the wrong page.
Agree, Just put some banners which links to our targeted page, or put any thing which help you to catch eye of visitors who are looking for your product. Or you can do proper SEO for that products page and try to get rank for that page only. it will be permanent solution. all the best
I must say that this is not the answer I was hoping for. But after reading your answers, perhaps someone would suggest me on how to SEO more then 400 different products that share similar attributes?
they don't share the same make and model name, off the top of my head I'd say target those in your titlebar and meta description, perhap an h1 page title on the page, and then let google do it's thing, if they are looking for model/make it'll work, if they are looking for attribute it'll list a few...
