Do these forums signatures actually help?

As I know they are useless

 

Mind sharing how you formed such an opinion?

Seriously, they're links, why wouldn't they be of benefit?

 

They actually help alot ive found the links in my sig at #1 spots at google before.

Also you can sell your signature then buy links.. if you want to do that...

 

Their real value is in the click throughs you might get. I think the Google algo is smart enough to discount signature links. Like others said, they probably won't help SEO wise, but the won't hurt either.

 

There nothing seo wise. Well with SERP rankings or traffic. But you could get some traffic if you market them correctly. Really small traffic that is.

 

If you go to yahoo and type in link:http://www.yoursite.com you will see incoming links from your signatures, but I'm not sure if there is any value related to these links.

 

Is it true that 250 different back-links that have been used atleast once will achieve a Google PR 2 and 500 such links will result in Google PR3. I was out at New Years with a guy who was drunk and talking crap - was this true? is there even a grain of truth in this???

Problem is people click on the links.
They know everything about you, and most of some bored G employees read it.
If you buy link soft instance to up your PR or serps
BANG
You get hammered by the bored G employee.
BEWARE POSTING YOUR SITE!
Not everyone is your friend on DP
Think of the bigger picture outside SEO
Links are devalued incidentally if they
#1 Are not related
#2 Same IP server
Thus the weight of a DP link is about
(made up figure)
A very small amount of say a related PR 2 site for your niche with 5 outbounds

 

i was looking at some backlinks for sites that i am competing against and i've seen quite a few forums (one was actually this one).

so they do help, and like has been said previously: every little bit helps

i've read that google does not like backlinks or links from bad areas such as adult sites. would poker sites be a part of that?

if i was part of a poker forum and had sigs that pointed to my sites, would that not work well for me?

Even if the value approached zero it would probably be worthwhile since you're posting anyway!

 

If you writing a lot on this forum more peoples will see your signature so it is helping if you write a lot,

 

I click on people's sigs if what they say has some sort of impact to me.

i.e. I like it... or hate it...

 

I think more importantly than having a link in your signature is having a quality signature...one that people will want to click on. All in all, isn't the point of all this link building a way to enhance traffic?
