You start your article: The best way to advertise a site is to create buzz/virality. Yet one of the best ways to create a buzz is to get people to read it. Do you honestly think that a "<link> I wrote an article" alone in a post is going to create a buzz? I did not read the article and I will not read the article. This is a discussion forum, and simply posting a link and saying you wrote an article is NOT enough to warrant a discussion. Bait me into wanting to click your link, give me a taste of what's on the other side, start the buzz for your own article at the places you promote it. If I simply wanted to read your article, then I'd click your recent blog link, starting a thread that simply points to the same thing but offers nothing (NOTHING) more, is not going to make me want to read it. So come on, give me a taste, make me want more, start that buzz!
good luck! If I was making money from that blog and needed visitors, i'd make a good link bait. Seeing as i make no money and just have that blog to teach others, a link should suffice. All my "real" sites have creative ways of driving traffic Make sure you sound big and important when you contact them. I've had more success with medium-small sized company's but have gotten several very large company's as sponsors.
