I was looking over how much Myspace and Neopets sold for and i began wondering what the biggest website sale ever was. Neopets sold for $160 million, what was the biggest sale you have ever seen or heard of?
Just do a search on Google and you should know? Skype was acquired by eBay for $2.6 billion cash and eBay stock though Skype is not strictly speaking a website. It is more of a web service.
Im pretty Sure Youtube was sold for the most! What is the most expensive website a member of DP has ever sold? Slightly different slant on the question
Facebook was effectively valued at $15b by the proportion that MS bought of it. Have never owned a website and sold it but we have developed sites end to end for up to $40,000 and I personally have worked on making $35m "tweeks" to existing sites (as PM... unfortunately Ast Sols wasnt the developers)
If the stories that crops up from time to time about Microsoft wanting to buy Yahoo ever come to fuition, I think we might have a new winner!
The biggest valuation are on the stock exchange : 3 examples : 1. Google : 205.54 Billion http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=GOOG 2. Ebay : 42 billion http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=ebay 3. Yahoo : 30.95 Billon This "websites" are "sold" on the stock exchange. When they buy a website, they generaly buy it with stocks (and not cash).
This is a hard question to find a proper answer for because you first need to define what a website is. is eBay a website or a business? If eBay sold their website would there still be a company left behind after the transaction? I think the question would be more interesting if we looked at it that way, otherwise we are just valuing companies that are online. Does anyone know of a website that was sold and the company remained separate from the transaction?
