I am willing to create custom web browsers for any site with sufficient traffic. You get people to download it, and we'll split the ad revenue. The ad $$$$ come from default searches, a related links tab, and 404 and 500 errors. This can monetize difficult sites like proxies, forums, video/funny pictures, and free hosting sites. Any site with a loyal and stable following will do great with a custom web browser for their users. I can add whatever features you want which are specific to your userbase. (Autoupdate latest threads, announcements, hottest topics/videos/pictures, etc.) There can be custom tabs for special content, custom windows for messages and links, all kinds of web page features for special ad promotions, and just about anything else software can do. Of course, popup blockers, tabbed interface, and the latest HTML techs are included. Why not post some features you'd like and I'll try and put them in so you can see how it works.
What web browser will you be using for the base of the browser. Firefox? Or a completely custom programmed engine?
The core of the browser is Microsoft's web browser control. For others who might ask, Browsers consist of two parts... the core the shell The core displays the web page. The shell contains the core. The shell includes navigation, popup blocker, tabs, favorites, shortcuts, etc. The Internet Explorer shell uses the Microsoft WebBrowser control. So, I can customize the shell to do whatever you want, while people continue browsing the web as usual. EXCEPT... you get the ad revenue from 404s, 500s, searches, and related links.
Oh...IE's rendering engine is slow, and has many security loopholes. I like the idea, just not the IE.
I think there is a reason you don't see as many Gecko-based browsers out there. It's a lot harder to customize Mozilla and it lacks the support of IE. Besides, with IE installed on every Windows machine, you don't have to worry about resistance to change as much.
