From the middle of the last month itself, we are hearing about the Google's new product KNOL. But still no one completely know about the KNOL.What are the complete workings of the KNOL? Also What are the latest news about the KNOL?
Knol is the google's version of the wikipedia. Google want to have an edge even in the user edited (but authentic) contents like wikipedia and hence developing it
Given Google record for innovation I really fear for Wiki, I hope this time Wiki will win this round. No offense to Google I just do not want any company, be it Microsoft, Yahoo etc to be too dominant on the Internet.
Agree-we need competition on the internet, not one company directing how and what we do. The more the competition the better for publishers and the general public worldwide.
competition is good, SADLY, what google does is usually GOOD. I have seen some small "wiki" sites where i shook my head since the interface, editing language etc. is just AWFUL...i can literally see the 40+ year oild bearded "Linux People" standing behind some sites, having NO IDEA whatsoever about user friendlyness, site ergonomy etc..etc.. sadly..
I hope it betters wiki so that I have a better chance of beating wiki for certain keywords in searches.
That's the ironic part of it, I like Gmail but I want Yahoo to win. I want the future Knol but I want Wiki to win.
Well lets see here if Google controls its own search results I would think that Knol would beat Wikipedia, About.com etc.. If i owned Google I would make sure my products where list first no?
I don't think Google can beat Wikipedia on this. But I wonder how much will Google pay for the domain?
It remains to be seen, if Google just build a normal Wiki it is hard to beat Wikipedia, but if they are as innovative as they had demonstrated in the past, there is a chance. Anyway we have seen Wiki feeble response on a search engine, so it is now up to Google to show their stuff
Whether they beat wiki or about.com is not the issue... The issue is to control enough web assets to maintain the current stocks price and be able to fend off the bigger bully on the block MSN In the end its about dollars and adsence laterz malcolm
It is really a love hate relation with Google really, on one hand I love using whatever they push out, their search engine, their gmail etc seems way ahead, on the other hand I fear that if they keep doing as what they do, they end up being another huge and dominant monster.....who knows why Google push out theirs, I may switch from Wikipedia to Google Wiki if it proved to be as good as their previous offerings.
This is definite, I guess Google now realize it does not have the content that Yahoo has and that despite its much traffic a lot are going to Wiki which is not controlled by them. They are actually driving traffic into an independent company which may be a threat later and that such a site like wiki can be much better monetize for lots of money if suitable adverts are put into it . I really do not mind having Wiki, imagine just a few Adsense, how much money will it make. Google can make much more with their expertize.
Knol can take out Wikipedia My school, and many other schools, state Wikipedia as an unreliable source and now we are not even aloud to use it. Soon more schools will start doing this, because its true, Wikipedia is not a reliable source, as anyone can go up there and change the words around and put in false info. And by the time someone realizes that its false, about 100,000 people probly will have seen it already. On top of all that, Wikipedia runs on donations, if they start to lose the fight, they will go even more down since they wont be able to run themselves. Since Knol will have like a digg sort of system and maybe some high end teachers doing all the wiking, it can be seen as a legit source. And when it comes to finding resources, speed is the key . + a lot of webmasters will use knol, as if they get there first, then they are set for life. (I believe Knol will be rev sharing project)
It is not 100% accurate, this is correct, but unreliable source? Possible if you can give me a few examples to check out? For those that Wiki do not have source references, you can see it says "Citation needed", that I agree is crap, but others are pretty close to the mark.
