    Hi everyone,

I believe that a huge percentage of all Adwordtisers misses out on more fitting keywords. I created a little manual how to add more relevant keywords. Enjoy :)

You should do that with converting keywords, but not with all of them

Considering that Google likes to return all the high competition keywords isn't this a way to find all the expensive keywords?

1,900 keywords in a single ad group with 1 ad. Yikes...

You've got 1916 words inactive for search and you're adding more?
    with a click-through rate of 0.55%?

In that situation surely deleting keywords would be more useful?

That was only a testing campaign. I tried to get as many keywords to be shown in the search results as possible since I believe that clicks from the google search site are more effective than content clicks.

    BIG, BIG NO NO.

If you can (i know its a LOT of work!!!) ONE keyword w/ all matching types PER ADGROUP.

    Eg.

    "Learn the piano"
    [learn the piano]
    learn the piano
    -free
    -scam
    -ripoff

and then Ad HIGHLY relevant to the kw and

Learn the Piano <------- in Headline
    Blablah blah
Learn the Piano <-- repeat keyword once in ad text

If you do NOT do this and make the biggest adwords newbie mistake to shove hundreds of KW in ONE adgroup...you will not have fun with your adwords!

Not only will all the "non relevant" keywords have lower quality score (therefore COST MORE)...also the one which dont get clicks and perform worse will affect the performance and cost of your WHOLE adgroup!!

I know its a lot of work...but i am doing it right now, really, really have the EXACT keyword in one adgroup with the EXACT keyword in the ad.

Even MINOR variations like "how to learn the piano", "learn piano" "learning the piano" etc...SHOULD have their own adgroup AND own adtext if you want to have best quality score, best CPC and overall success with adwords!

    example:
XXX treatment ---> own adgroup and text
XXX treatmentS -> own AG and ad text
    treatments for XXX --> own...
how to treat XXX --> own

    you get the idea !

There are other better tools available which can generate good amount keywords such as trellian, keyword discovery.com etc...

Try these as well... however Google tool is good enough

Those tools are optional. You don't have to buy them to be successful with Adwords. Google's Keyword Tool gives you everything you need

Far from it. Google's tool gives you the same thing it gives everyone else. It's useful but if it's all you're using you're putting limits on your campaign.

which tools do you use, aside from the known "pay" services. Any good free ones?

Not really, outside of my own server logs & on-site search data. All the others I use regularly are paid tools.

I use Google, Yahoo, MSN, Keyword Discovery, Ebay, Thesaurus, competitor meta data, google news, industry online publications for buzz words, directories... at some point you start to see overlap.. at that point I am done on research phase.
