Just ask the company that you're dealing with if they produce products that comlpy with the ROHS (if that's necessary for your country) --> See this website and this one.

For the HS Code, read this. Than ask the company what the HS Code for the product is if you can't find it, after that just call your customs to ask the import rate.

    also try www.ec21.com

and a lil tip/ on alibaba and ec21 do a search for "paypal" and ull see all the suppliers who take paypal as payments.. and this is much safer than western union. ive done many trasnactions with suppliers using the paypal as my main search. then just go through the suppliers and see if they got what yo want.

There is a lot of scamming going on via Alibaba, be sure to only use escrow services and never send WU or Wire. I suggest you get an agent in china instead.

I have used alibaba.com very successfully with 5 of their trusted companies. After I signed up, I had an alibaba representative contact me and they answered any queries that I had.

Yes they do work and also they would replace any non-working items. I have ordered mostly photography related products such as memory, clone flash, tripods, lighting system, rf triggers and a lot more.

For trusted supplier ratings just look at alibaba.com site.

From my experience, http://www.made-in-china.com has 2-4x more scammers then Alibaba because they screen less. I suggest escrow service and not paypal for purchases from mainland china (this doesn't apply to hong kong/macau).

I agree. I would use escrow for everything.
