I am currently 4th for my keyword and I'm hiring an SEO service to move up to #1. What I'm asking is does the number #1 result get enough hits extra that its worth it? Does any one know on average what percent of people click the first link, compared to other positions on page 1?
Try this link. The clicks on #1 are dramatically higher than even #2. http://www.seoresearcher.com/distribution-of-clicks-on-googles-serps-and-eye-tracking-analysis.htm
What keyword? If the keyword requires you to spend $2k on SEO to go from #4 to #1, and you don't get the money back through conversions, then no. If it's a less competitive keyword and you can get there for a couple hundred, then I believe it's worth it. Edit: 2k and couple hundred are relative, I just used them to state a point ^^
It depends. If you keyword is something like say "iPhone" then you can expect more visitors and more $$$. People often click the #1 thing. Have you ever remember the second men to go to outer space? most didn't. People tend to remember the #1. That's why we aspire to be #1.
Yes, but I think in the SERPs, users scan the first 5-6 results, read the titles and descriptions and choose the most relevant one. So with SEO, I'd say you would have to remember the first 5 men on the moon
It all depend on your keyword. Majority of my blog traffic is came from Google because I rank 1st in certain keyword phrase. And I also see traffic came in though I'm listed in 5th - 10th place. The content itself is very important. One of my keyword phrase is listed in 5thpage, but I do see people came from it. Maybe in earlier page people didn't get what they're searching for.
If you look at the second image I displayed you'll see that only 8% of people reach the 2nd page. So it you're on the 5th page, you're only getting about 1% or less of the traffic you would get if on page 1.
I have read information re-first page positioning that suggests, while #1 gets considerably more clicks, positions #3-#6 on the first page get more conversions. Any thoughts on this?
According to the pie, I'm utterly utterly wrong then However, I still doubt that the difference is THAT high. When searching, you don't just blindly click on the first result, you spend a few seconds to scan it and read what the title/description says.
AOL did its own survey and came to conclusions similar to the chart above. It's the truth — #1 is far, far better than #2 or #3.
I am a firm believer that if you sell high about your site on any position #1 through #5 you are ought to get good number of clicks then average presence. You sites first impression is what a web surfer sees in SERP's not when he is on your site.
I also think that if you have a good and expressive title and description that is related to the search keyword, you will get the click if you're on position 4, instead of the guy on 1 that has a crappy title/desc. I refuse to believe people use Google and other SE's with a blindfold.
Although if the guy in 1st has a good title, and you in 4th also have a good title you lose because the searchers clicked on the 1st.
Thanks Jim this is the best answer and it's exactly what I wanted to hear!! Tudi, I wont tell you the keyword I'm talking about. But what I will tell you is that it's going to cost a lot more than $2,000 to move my site to number one, I will be paying $10,000 to get it there and $500 a month to keep it there. With the information Jim474 gave I'm confident that I can make as much as my entire investment every single month.
Good luck, I hope you get a high ROI on that! It would be really interesting if you could document the traffic amount you have now and the traffic when you reach position 1 or 2. Best
According to that graphic, if you move up from #4 to #1, your site can get up to 14x (56% / 4%) more traffic from that search engine
Now the only question is, how reliable is that graphic and how reliable it is for your specific keyword and competitors?
