Backlinks with 'PR N/A'

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by prophet, Jan 4, 2008.

I have a good list of backlinks to my website, although, a lot of them have 'PR N/A" even though they are established sites many being PR5+, they are not new sites. How does this effect my PR? Are they still regarded as a positive backlink?

    Cheers,

Basically, I would like to know why it says "n/a" if the sites have PR.

    Google still looks at them...

I have several pages indexed with N/A some of them are old enough to have a 0. In fact, I have one page that was a PR3 and is now N/A.

As for how much weight such links hold though is yet to be seen...especially with all the PR droppage that google has given out these last few months.

Maybe you are saying about inner pages... PR is passes from pages to the index....

If you deep link build your inner pages and making it high in PR surely your PR in your index will be greatly affected...

Sites don't have PageRank. Pages have PageRank. If your link is on a page that shows N/A in the Toolbar, its a sign that the page isn't in Google's index. If the page isn't in the index, it means Google hasn't seen the link and so it won't help your rankings. Checking for a cached copy of the page is a quick and dirty (about 99% reliable) way of checking if the page is in Google's index.

Really? So the home page (index) isn't where the PR is distributed to other pages from ?

N/A means that it has not yet been assigned PageRank, not that it has no PageRank. If a site has been assigned pagerank it can be PR 0. So hopefully these backlinks will aquire some juice next update and help your site. :)

Sites don't have PageRank. Pages have PageRank.

Its true that if a page shows N/A in the Toolbar PageRank meter, it doesn't necessarily mean it hasn't been assigned PageRank in Google's internal PageRank database because the Toolbar database is up to several months out of date. But its more common for a links page to show N/A because it hasn't been indexed at all - especially since Google seems to be getting very reluctant to index link exchange pages. So if you're interested in knowing if a link to your site is helping your ranking and the page it resides on shows N/A, it only makes sense to check if the page is indexed at all.

The N/A means that that webpage was created after the last PR update. After the next PR update, the N/A will change from anywhere from 0-10.

    WRONG, WRONG WRONG.

Google calculates PR on a regular basis, but only updates the PR on the google toolbar one every few months.

Just because the toolbar says N/A doesn;t mean that the site isn't in Google's index it just means the page/site is new and that page wasn't included in the last toolbar update.

My suggestion forget about PR uninstall it and look for topic relates places to drop your link, PR can be faked and is totally unreliable!

Google still counts those PR N/A links towards your total backlinks. Those links are not going to remian that way for ever. Most of those will change in the next update.
